Good acting, decent story totally ruined by the camera work
on 21 September 2014
Whereas the story is decent enough and the acting solid from all leads, the film is totally ruined by the shaky camera work. This gimmick might please wannabe edgy critics and cinema-goers, but it's the emporor's new clothes: utterly rubbish and it's time we said it. It makes it all but impossible to enjoy the film and follow the plot.
When I go to the cinema, I want to be able to follow the story, appreciate the stunt work during fights and enjoy the plot unfolding, not try and keep down my lunch because the camera work is so shaky. For the same effect try watching a good film on a portable device and shake it about with your hand. Genius isn't it? The effect is pretentious and worse than that, totally spoils the film.
After the superb first Bourne movie, this is a massive let-down. And I have lost count of the number of people who hated the film for that reason.
Shame on you Mr Greengrass for spoiling a promising series to satisfy your directorial vanity instead of allowing the viewers to appreciate the film.
