It's never too late to check out this CD of pop favorites from The Breakaways. Many of their sessions were with the top stars of the time and finally they can take their bows from music fans worldwide. I heard their version of "He's a Rebel" and what a tribute to Miss Vikki Carr. Vikki's single hit #5 Down Under (Aussie) and their version is very close to Vikki's. I also learned they have performed with Miss Carr on several do-wop tunes "Across the Tracks" and 'Tell her Of Our Love" released in Europe hopefully the US and the rest of the world can hear the great work AND THE IMPORTANT contribution to the music world. Buy this CD,this will bring back some great music!

Unsung singers from the sixties
on 11 April 2014 - Published on Amazon.com
I was hearing Petula Clark singing her songs: DOWNTOWN, I KNOW A PLACE, ROUND EVERY CORNER and A SIGN OF THE TIMES on my Walkman cassette, portable CD, and IPod for almost 30 years but behind that great British singer was the Breakaways, who sung backup to all her songs. I bought 8 of their songs through ITunes; I wanted to buy the track that were credited solely to the Breakaways since I already have Petula's I KNOW A PLACE which was also part of the album. Like Billie Davis, Sandie Shaw and Barbara Ruskin, the Breakaways didn't get the attention they deserved (perhaps because of Petula they were in the background in more ways than one). The Breakaways were primarily a backup vocal group just like The Blossoms and Sweet Inspirations. There should have been more of their own songs in that CD.

For Fans of 1960's British Pop

I purchased this CD having no idea who the Breakaways were. Apparently they are best known for backup vocals on a number of 1960's records (by such artists as Petula Clark). They really do have a distinctive sound, and this CD includes a great selection of key tracks they were on. Only complaint: it would have been nice to have more of their own recordings (group and individual) on the CD as they were clearly worthy of having hits with there own records.
