What a great CD. There are some really good songs on here, my favourites are Lena Horne's 'Honeysuckle Rose' and the full version of 'On The Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe' from The Harvey Girls. This CD is great for those who have just got into musicals, and of course for those who have been watching and listening for years. All in all, a brilliant CD with great songs that you'll find yourself humming along to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hallelujah! 24 Aug. 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Who loves musicals? I mean REAL musicals. The way I see it, there was only ONE golden age of the genre- that was the age of the MGM musical during the 40's and 50's. NOTHING beats the artistry and sophistication that made an MGM musical what it was. "More stars than there are in heavens" the promos proclaimed. Damn straight, there was talent- and that same talent glows like wildfire in this CD anthology! Listen and you'll know what I mean.

5.0 out of 5 stars That's Real Entertainment! 21 Jan. 2005
By Charlotte Kendall - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
If you love musicals then this is the cd for you! It contains 16 orignal MGM musical songs. MGM really did make the best musicals and this cd proves it! They also had some of the best talent too. This cd has the best of the best. My favorite songs are That's Entertainment! from "The Band Wagon", Get Happy from "Summer Stock", Singin in the Rain from "Singin in the Rain", The Trolley Song from "Meet Me in St. Louis", The Varsity Drag from "Good News", Easter Parade from "Easter Parade", On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe from "The Harvey Girls", They Can't Take That Away from Me from "The Barkleys of Broadway" and Hallelujah from "Hit the Deck". I wish they would make a volume two or something because this cd is awesome! This cd is a great reflection of the "Golden Age". It's a dirty rotten shame they don't make movies like these anymore! This is real entertainment!

5.0 out of 5 stars That's Entertainment! well-needed by public 16 July 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
With all the trash music out in the world today, That's Entertainment! is a good reflect to the Golden Age of movies. It contains the best of the best, and whenever I hear it, I get the urge to go and rent a musical. This CD puts some culture into today's world. Buy it, buy it, buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars These Recordings Have NEVER Sounded Better! 28 Sept. 2008
By J. A. Retzer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Sure, these are the same old standards you've heard before and you probably have multiple recordings of them. Throw them all away!

You have NEVER heard them sound this good before. This CD showcases them in the best possible sound from the original elements -often in true stereo and high fidelity for the first time ever. These tracks are all presented in pristine sound, cleaned and remastered as close to the original performances as is likely to be possible.

Gone is the fake stereo re-channeling (remember the origingal That's Entertainment soundtrack LP?), gone is the excessive reverb and echo so common to monaural re-releases.

Playing each track is literally like hearing it for the first time. The presence inherent in the recordings is released with a vengence once the reverb is stripped away, once the fake stereo is removed, once the higher fidelity is revealed in the first generation masters.

It's worth it alone to hear the restored full-range, true stereo, high-fidelity magnetic tape recording of William Warfield singing 'Old Man River.' Such depth and range has never been present in any recording I've ever heard.

I could go on and gush about each individual track, but this is once CD you must actually hear to believe.
