This Gerald Mahlowe compilation is dedicated to Billy Daniels and includes both early and rare recordings that he has brought together for this most welcome release. I say that because in spite of his star status there are very few CDs of his recordings currently available. The inclusion of radio recordings adds to the atmosphere and it is interesting to hear him sing his most famous song "That Old Black Magic" with a backing by Russ Case, his orchestra and Benny Payne at the piano. There are also 4 songs backed by Malcolm Lockyer. The songs in this collection come from 1936 to the early 1950s. The 20-song compilation has great sound throughout and gives a great feeling of Billy Daniels at his best and the 59 minutes pass by all too soon! So Gerald, many thanks for placing this excellent CD into a noticeable gap in the racks.
