This voluminous text comprises a detailed look at diagnostic testing, an overview of naturopathic philosophy, therapeutic modalities and pharmacology of natural medicines. I particularly appreciated Section 4 on Syndromes and Special Topics, which covers some of the key issues a naturopath would be faced with in practice. As a student, writing up case studies, I found Section 6, which covers the general treatment of specific health problems very useful. The book presupposes a working knowledge of the aetiology and pathology of each condition, as well as the biochemistry and pharmacodynamics of the nutrients and herbs recommended. As a student, I found the language a little more technical than most of my other texts, but I see clearly that the shortcomings lie with me, not with the book. This text is not for beginners!
