I have just finished the game The testament of sherlock holmes, had waited for a long time as the release date kept being put back and I was not dissapointed, this was by far the best Holmes game yet.It centered around the death of a priest, not just a death but a mutilation of his entire body, who or what kind of person could do such a thing. Not only this but with such force. You do not have to wait too long to find out that it is his old enemy behind it.This story unfolds when a group of children playing in an attic of an old house discover two dolls one of sherlock holmes and watson and a book written by watson, one of the children begin to read the book which then flashes back to the story.
In this game you have a much darker side to sherlock holmes, could he really be guilty of such crimes as you are about to discover when playing this, the ending is quite sweet and very unlike holmes but wont spoil the game, all in all a very enjoyable game which i will probarly play over a few times.

I have played all of the adventure games in this series. The game is very long, and the graphics are amazing as is the voice acting (with the exception of one little lad whose accent sounded a little American but that was a one off!). The puzzles are just what we adventure gamers adore - they are a nice balance of clever and non irritating and they fit the story. They are varied too; very little or no noticeable repetition of methods.

The story is very dark, and this is not suitable for minors as the injuries are shown in depth with great realisim and there are scenes that you have to search for clues which consist of dead bodies - mainly people and some animals. These are within the context of the story and are not token. This is not an action game but the gameplay and realism are such as used in that genre. This means this game is a bit of a groundbreaker - it manages to please existing adventure gamers of the point and click kind who enjoy their puzzles and story, and the players who might normally go for an action game becasue of the in depth realism and gameplay (you can choose beteen first and third person even) will be satisfied with this game. I definatly found it more excting a game than normal as a result of the increased realism and gameplay.

This game is a must buy.

I entirely agree with the first two reviewers.

I have loved all the Frogwares/Holmes games (except the first - Mystery of the Mummy - which is nothing like the others) and this is as good as any - maybe the best in terms of imagination and the sheer quality of its graphics, sound and technical excellence.

The "Englishness" is VERY well realized especially as the programmers appear, from their names, to be Russian. You would have to be really pedantic to nitpick the superb atmosphere of Victorian England, like the Bishop of West London Knightsbridge being in East London Stratford or the obviously deliberately anachronistic antenna towards the end.

The story is very dark, to use the fashionable phrase, but lightened by wonderful moments of humour. I particularly liked Watson's summing up of their perilous predicament on the cable car near the end!

And the concluding scenes were genuinely moving.

I do hope there will be more in this series - they obviously involve a great deal of work.

I love mystery Games and I own all the Sherlock Holmes Games. Frogware Games are known for their excellent Graphics, Voice overs, Stories and this Game in my opinion is the best yet. I recommend the seller because the Game arrived quickly and was not damaged. I especially appreciate the puzzles can be skipped. There is one time response puzzle I am struggling with and it does not have a skip, but I still recommend the Game.

Problems with the tutorial were solved after loading patch and then it all went smoothly thank goodness. One of the best in the series along with The Awakened. Lots of good puzzles and a great storyline. Not too much talking and plenty of locations to explore.

In this game we meet Sherlock Holmes and James Watson again as they go on a quest to find out what happened to the bishop, who has been brutally murdered. In the course of the game Holmes' behaviour becomes more and more strange. Eventually Watson tries to find out what happened to Holmes.
The way the story unfolds is very well done, and it keeps you wondering what happens next, and where the adventure will lead you. It was never dull or tedious. You have to look for clues (of course), open lots of boxes and safes, and use a deduction board to find out what happened in various parts of the story. This deduction board is a nice finding: it forces you to think like Holmes, and use all the information you have gathered to find the most logical explanation for certain events. Of course you also have to perform some chemical analyses, but unfortunately these are dumbed down so much that it spoilt all the fun for me. Luckily this is not a big deal because there is plenty of fun to be had in the other puzzles the game presents.
The ending wraps up the whole story nicely. There are only a few unanswered questions but they are not important enough to leave you with an unsatisfied feeling after finishing the game.
The graphics are also very good. You have lots of freedom to wander around in this game, and there is so much to see! Frogwares has a lot of experience and knowledge about the 19th century, and it shows. The era was definitely not as romantic as many people think it is! Life was very hard for many people then, as is painfully shown in this game. Very well done.
All in all this is almost a must-play if you like adventure games, the 19th century, and Sherlock Holmes.
