What is the order of the day? That is easy, it is; wonderful & controversial artwork, liner notes and lyrics from a band who are ready to hit home with the most political album of 2003. The song titles range from the clever; ’Operation Iraqi Liberation (O.I.L.), to the cringingly clichéd; ‘You Can Kill the Protesters, But You Can’t Kill the Protest’. This says a lot about the music you find on this record. While it is catchy and accusing, some of the lyrics are a little too tired. A little like Papa Roach – ‘Angels & Insects’ with its heavy borrowing from the film/book ‘Fight Club’. Album opener; ‘Turncoat’ is not one of these songs however and bristles with allegation as it powers along its strong bassline. The same goes for ‘Rank-N-File’ with its militaristic styling; ‘I’m standing with the rank and file, I’m marching with the underground’. It does however dabble a little too much in the whole brothers in arms ethic, leaving it sounding a little too cutesy for its own good.
Anti-Flag must be commended for going down this route in such a politically volatile time with the Bush administration in full swing, (despite the obvious wound licking as the very public criticisms flood in from all nations alike). One of the bravest songs for an American band to release at this time was the cover of Woody Guthrie’s ‘Post-War Breakdown’ with it’s lyrics not only challenging those in power but anyone who believes in the ‘American Dream’, a subject many Americans still have much faith imbedded in.
This is a surprisingly catchy album, with plenty of pulsing little guitar licks and chanted vocals.

Well for starters my reply to this album is WOW!! jesus man it sends shivers down my spine , as always anti-flag have come back up with amazing lyrics that can really make you feel connected with them , this whole album just gives out a whole aura of peace and an attitude of never giving up fighting and smashs through the lies of the world delivering us the truth . The really good thing about this album and all of anti-flags more modern work is, that as always anti-flag have stood by their messages and beliefs which i have always fully believed but now lyrically they are comin up with very intelligent things which no one can truthely say is wrong and that sure kicks ass!!!! anyway there is sooooooooo much more i could say bout this disc of inspiration , but u have to buy it and appreciate , connect with it ur self!! ANTI-FLAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyway... peace,brother/sisterhood and untiy , jonny

Not only do Anti Flag call George Bush a 'Turncoat! Killer! Liar! Thief!" on the opener of this 13 tracker, they go on to explain exactly why there justified on their inlay. And it just gets better from there- whether they are singing about the wrong-doings of the world trade organisations, civillian casualties during the 'Operation Iraqi Liberation' or just the unjust killings of protestres around the world, they provide information and statistics alongside the lyrics in an informant and succint manner.
For young punk rockers out there still trying to figure out why exactly they should be pissed off, this is indispensable. and while musically it is straight ahead, catchy anthemic and melodic punk with a hardcore edge, in a genre that is inceasingly dominated by nothing but girls, heartbreak and fart jokes, The Terror State by Anti Flag is totally refreshing.

Yet again Anti-Flag have delivered with yet another amazing album. The terror state not only makes sure the world knows where Anti-Flag stand on the current suituations in the world (such as war on iraq and the "president" of America) but also provides us with a another set of top class punk tunes. Everything has been stepped up a gear on this album.Drums, bass, vocals and guitar all seem more together than before and it makes for one awesome album. Die hard fans will love it and so will new converts, nothing else to say except buy this album.

This album blew me away! I couldn't believe that a band that I hadn't even heard of 2 years ago could be so great. 'Post-War Breakout' is a great song with a brilliant snaking bassline, 'Mind The G.A.T.T.' has some of the greatest melodies ever written, 'Death Of A Nation' is undoubtedly the angriest song on the album with it's distinct hardcore moments, 'Power To The Peaceful' is a blatant stadium rock anthem with a 'catchy-as-a-cold' chorus, 'You Can Kill The Protestor, But You Can't Kill The Protest' is another example of how both angry AND melodic Anti-Flag can be. 'Turncoat' is another memorable song, complete with insulting chorus, 'When You Don't Control Your Government People Want To Kill You' has another insanely brilliant melody, 'Sold As Freedom' has as much lyrics squeezed into the last part of the chorus as any other song EVER, 'Operation Iraqi Liberation (O.I.L.)' is one of the greatest songs ever recorded, 'Rank-N-File' has a complicated bassline chorus, but nevertheless, excellent, 'Tearing Down The Borders' has another catchy chorus, even chant-like. The weakest, but still good, song 'Wake Up!' Has a very long chorus, but is sung in about 20 seconds. And now for the greatest song on the album, 'One People, One Struggle' with it's irresistible melodys, hooks, harmonies and chorus make up for everything. The bonus track is also a short but angry and expletive blast of punk rock. Enjoy!
***** - Astounding! Brilliant! Best Album Ever!!!
