... or, as the cover puts it, "for the first time the full sordid story".

Not only drawings, mind: this is an illustrated novelette with text by Timothy Shy (= D.B. Wyndham Lewis): 128 pages including 38 small drawings, 19 full-page plates and one plate over two pages; on St Trinian's, that well-known school for girls somewhere near Croydon. It does not just (just!) deal with the school, this torrid tale also shows 'how slow-footed Nemesis caught up with Mr H Richmond Weisenhein', the workings of the City and of the Board of education, and how to get Ahead in these (and how not to). Star of the story is the delectable Angela Menace (upper Fifth) but there are many other little Angels... mind you, the Sunday Squawk's emotional interview with the alleged widow of Mr J. Wesley Burp was a fabrication from beginning to end. Mr Burp was merely shot twice in the thigh, and probably by accident.

The text would probably not be five star material in its own right, though it is enjoyable with an appealing dry wit - no, it is Searle's drawings and the integration of the two infusing the tale(Debagging Old Flannelpants; The roasting of Miss Whiff; the Armed Rising of 1881). Memorable stuff.

Other stories in the Opus are Searle's drawings only:
Hurrah for St Trinian's (1948) - part on St T's, but not all
The Female Approach (1950) - part on St T's
Back to the Slaughterhouse (1952) - part on St T's
The Terror of St Trinian's (1952)text plus plates, as described above, *all* on St T's
Souls in Torment (1953) - part on St T's

Bought this for a St Trinian's fan who enjoyed it. Anyone who liked the films will probably like this book
