Picked this up at the Paul Raymond Project's gig at the Borderline last week, and it's only taken a few plays to reveal what a lot of great songs there are on here. Many numbers have that elusive UFO essence, what with the guitarist's tasteful homage to M.S., or even the appearance of Micheal himself on one track. Hard to tell the difference actually! But I do especially like the style of the title track, which reminds me of the Climax Blues Band, while veering back into Savoy Brown territory. The only thing that could be better is the drum sound; either it's a drummer that sounds like a drum machine (Jaki Liebezeit anyone??) or it's a drum machine. Bah!
I still think UFO are missing a trick on their recent albums by not featuring more of Paul's writing and playing. Wasn't it good in the days when we could actually hear him in the mix? The Borderline show was fantastic by the way and very well attended, with some rarely heard songs being played like Take It Or Leave It, and Just Another Suicide. Paul, please do another solo gig real soon, and this time maybe give us Try Me, and Shot in the Head?!

I was really disappointed with this. This is soft and bland pop, nothing to do with the UFO-like stuff he is so good at. Obviously he has this project to do something different, maybe, but this is just too poppy for me. I don t like it. Listen before you buy.

HASH(0x9b03712c) out of 5 stars AN OVERLOOKED TALENT ! 31 May 2014
By Mr. Crankshaft - Published on Amazon.com

Paul Raymond has never been the "upfront" or "in the spotlight" guy in any band he has played in ... and he has a solid music resume, most notably with the well respected & under-rated British blues-rock outfit Savoy Brown from '71 - '76 ( he played on what were arguably their two best releases "Street Corner Talking " & "Hellbound Train" ) ... and with the very solid, influential, and also under-rated UFO ( four separate stints '76 - ''81, '84 - '86, '93 - '98, and '03 to the present ).

What he brings to the table is creative songwriting, stellar keyboards & rhythm guitar playing, and absolutely superb backing vocals ( but some of his wardrobe choices for live performances in the '80s were shall we say "questionable" ! ) ... for me, the best examples of his playing / singing abilities are his work on live performances of UFO's "Doctor, Doctor" ( great rhythm guitar work ) and the 'deep-cut' "Night Run" ( stellar backing vocals ) ...

With all the previous being said, and based on how impressive I thought he was in UFO, I ordered this solo release "Terms & Conditions Apply" from a seller on Amazon Markettplace ... it was very reasonably priced ... and after two front to back playings, I must say I was impressed with the album ... certainly none of the tunes are great, but all are very good to good varied pop, rock & hard rock ... with varied tempos, beats, & "textures" ... and Raymond's singing & playing is strong, but definitely not spectacular ...

This CD is a winner ... a solid effort ... I recommend it's purchase by any fan of UFO ... hopefully Raymond will continue to release solo music in addition to his work within UFO ...

HASH(0x9bac7cc0) out of 5 stars Refining, rather than remaking, the wheel 11 Mar. 2013
By Jason Hillenburg - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This album works on two levels - one, it features songs like "Deeper Shade of Blue" which amply demonstrate that Paul is continuing to mature as both a songwriter and a storyteller. Secondly, the album serves as a solid reminder of Raymond's versatility. From the imaginative re-envisioning of The Four Tops "Reach Out (I'll Be There)" as a slab of melodic hard rock to his cover of James Ray's R&B chestnut "If You Gotta Make A Foll Of Somebody", Raymond honors his past. But he strikes a strong synthesis between the past and the present with a strong set of originals. There's no moving the goalposts here - just a strong reminder of why Raymond has been in demand and co-written some of the best rock songs over the last 30+ years.

HASH(0x9b405ee8) out of 5 stars DECENT AOR 23 Feb. 2013

wow i figured the prp would be long in the past now that paul has been so busy with ufo the past 10 years again but the last time i talked to paul in april 2008 at a ufo gig in nyc im not 100% sure but he actually told me about this album back then and IF MY MEMORY IS CORRECT i belive he introduced me to andy simmons that night who he pointed out in this little dressing room to me and said he was going to do another prp album with this fellow right here and i could swear it was andy simmons ( katie you know weather im right or not) anyway that was 5 years back already so i guess with the hectic schedule ufo has been keeping the past decade paul finally got this done, it was nice to see rueben archer included here as im a huge stampede fan, anyway i would call this an aor album at best, if you are looking for this to sound like ufo,msg or waysted forget it this record sounds nothing like anything any of those bands have ever done, sadley the songs are not to catchy i feel and paul does an interesting turtles cover of reach out ( ill be there) with michael schenker doing a guest apperance on guitar but i feel michael and paul could have come up with a much better cover to do then that, anyway this record kind of just coasts along and at times during the 57 minutes and some odd seconds of music here i did ask myself why am i listening to this and then quickly relized oh yeah its a prp cd, honestly i liked prp much better when paul put this band together in japan some 25 years ago, regrettably the songs get stail at times and as ive said they just coast along and dont really go anyplace, with all of the work paul is putting into ufo i honestly feel this record is a bit unnecessary at this stage in his carrere, paul has been around a long long time and i loved his work with plastic penny, chicken shack and savoy brown before he was ever in ufo, the first plastic penny album came out in 1968 so this is pauls 45th year in the biz, i feel when a lot of great musicians are at this stage in life a lot of there best creativity is behind them, i think pauls peak was in the 70s and 80s, anyway its nice to have bought this record, i want to support him and he is one of the nicest guys in ufo next to andy parker but i must give my honest opinion here, it would not be fair if i didnt so if you buy this cd do not excpect the greatness of the lights out classic of 1977 or the hard heavy metal rockin of vices by waysted in 1983 you will get neither, you will get a basic aor record with ok vocals and decent musicianship, hey ive been a fan for 35 years now..............................

Paul Raymond is known as the keyboardist and guitarist
from the great british band UFO. He wrote many a great
song and i'm sure he was involved in most of their music
even though not given credit! While his vocals and writing
isn't up to UFO music some of it is very good. I can hear
UFO in most of the songs! There are some bonus tracks
that UFO used but was changed during recording. You
can hear he originals! Glad to see him putting out original
music and I'm glad to have it! Keep it up mate! cheers!
