I stumbled across this book and was immediately taken by the terrific title - how could I not read it ?! I'm so pleased I did. It is a delightfully humorous and well-written affair and I found the author's style remarkably free-flowing and easy to read - and that's notwithstanding the excellent vocabulary that on occasion had me stretching for my trusted dictionary !

You really don't need to be particularly interested in camping to enjoy the story and to share in Chris's entertaining travel experiences; you also certainly don't need to be male - I chuckled at it every bit as much as my husband did as there is plenty for everyone to relate to !

I also found that it was a considerably more educational read than I had been anticipating and there is much to interest those who wish to learn. I have to say that my husband and I have even discussed the possibility of trying to follow in the author's footsteps and taking the same journey !

I would recommend this book to anyone and I very much look forward to reading about Mr Lown's further travels ...

I wasn't expecting much from this as camping is defintiely NOT my style, but really enjoyed it and found it very well written, which for the Amazon books I've read recently is so refreshing! I've never been to most of Germany (except Cologne on a Rhine cruise) and enjoyed the various points of information about the areas he visited. There were some very funny parts (though the 'undercrackers' were rather overdone) and his attachment to his tent was , well, admirable? I'm sure a lot of people enjoyed the reviews of the beers and cheeses of each region (was of no interest to me though). I would have thought there was something for most people in this book and I'd read others by this author - especially if they are free as this one was!

Chris Lown has written a lighthearted and entertaining account of a month long camping challenge he set himself to visit every German state. Along the way he kept a diary of the local beer and cheese he sampled as well as chronicling the deterioration of his tent which finally bit the dust a little prematurely. Fortunately Chris had a friend or two in Germany who could help him out with his temporarily homeless plight. If you are planning a tour of Germany Lown's book may well tempt you to go off the beaten track and discover some sights and experiences that a tourist guide might miss. I acquired the book as a freebie but is is well written and a fun read. It deserves to join the ranks of mainstream travelogs.

This book is very funny and intelligently and well written. I cannot recommend it highly enough, one of the best books I have ever read. I was attracted to it initially by the quirky title which is very apt. I love the way the book is laid out with conclusions at the end of each chapter. I have to admit it is too long since I have read the book, I travel and so am always on and off internet. So sorry to Chris Lown for taking so long to leave a review :/ . I think anybody who enjoys travel or reading about it should read this great book, even though the author is obviously well educated it is not difficult to read but is difficult to put down. And as for it being free on kindle, well that is just amazing, no excuse not to read it if you have kindle.

I have always bemoaned the lack of travel books about Germany so I was thrilled to come across this book. I loved the way the book was written and I really enjoyed reading about his travels across the country. I don't really understand the obsession people have with camping but it didn't affect my enjoyment of the book.

Well researched and written, and offering an insight into the country, with ideas of places to visit and some funny observations too. An enjoyable read for the sake of it, and probably even more interesting if you are planning a trip. Interesting references to local beers and cheese too!

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Having visited Germany several times and planning a few more trips in the near future this book was not only a good read but also gave me a few ideas of where to go next. Several times this had me laughing out loud. Thank you Chris for a good read!

Well the Title made me titter and I tittered, laughed and sniggered all the way to the end of the book. You don't have to be a fan of camping, beer or cheese to enjoy the humour and tales of woe, but it will appeal to anyone who has sense of humour and enjoys travel.
