HASH(0x9458ebe8) out of 5 stars Great and Practical Book for Tennis Parents 21 Mar. 2013
By San Jose 14 - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Frank Giampaolo has done a wonderful job in this book. As a tennis parent who started to play tennis with my children at age 5, I wanted to understand what it takes to raise a child that would not only be proficient in tennis, but could excel. Frank has laid out an excellent framework for what it takes for a child to achieve in this very competitive sport. There is no sugar coating in it, basically lots of hours and hard work! However, Frank also takes the time to review common pitfalls that tennis parents and their children have and gives useful tips to resolve them. Great job Frank!

HASH(0x9452cbe8) out of 5 stars If you are a parent of a competitive tennis player DON'T GO ONE MORE DAY WITHOUT READING THIS BOOK !! 5 Feb. 2013
By Laura T Herremans - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
As a parent of competitive tennis player with no tennis background myself, as my young daughter began on the competitive tournament trail, as some of you may understand, it was a rough one for all of us. As talented as we thought she was, and as many people told us she was, I began to understand just how much the mental aspect of the game played into the overall success of a player.

So I began to research, looking high and low, buying dozens of books, talking about being -In the Zone- or -Mental Toughness-, etc. which were all great and inpirational .. but none of them guided me on "how to do this" or how help my child "get there". None of them really explained to me about how MY behavior as a parent played such a HUGE role in helping or hindering my child.

This is how this book is different from any other!!! It is an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE for any tennis parents hoping to give your child every advantage you can, and stop some of the behavior that may actually be holding them back from being all they can be.

The author has such relatable REAL life experiences, with both successes and failures, that you feel like you have your own "seasoned coach" helping you out along the way!!
He even goes as far to provide and explain how to use specific tools, like match logs and charting, which we have used and have found to be truly helpful !!

My first review of this book last August when I first purchases it was as follow:

"I've found in this book something so uniquely real and honest, and for once had a resource where I was able to relate to every word !!
It has just brought such great clarity and given us wonderful direction that I can only see remarkable future development using this book as guidance for our young daughter."

6 Months later.. (as I continue to re-read this book, referring back to sections when I need a refresher) my review today is as follows:

Since reading this book for the first time this past summer, I can truly say it has really changed our family's perspective and our attitude towards our daughter's (and now son's) tennis.
She has definitely benefitted .... taking her ranking from the mid 50s to the Low 20s. (and climbing !!) Making our family's whole experience from what were many times, tense and stressful for all of us, to a positive experience.

I had so many "lightbulb" moments as I read this book... where you just say.. "well yes.. of course" things that are so obvious.. it's just your so close sometimes you just can't see them. This book truly helps you to do a self-assessment of your role in your tennis player's life. I know I felt truly empowered to help my child be the best person they can be with the "life skills" he talks about, that will make her successful on and off the court!!!

As an example, over and above what it has done for our daughters tennis success on the court, this book has helped us create such a better positive attitude that my daughter as since gone on to win the Sportsmanship Award at our last Closed Championship Tournament. It was a proud parent day !! And I truly think our family's new attitude created by the guidance we got from this book helped make this award possible!!

Thank you so much for writing and sharing your experiences!

It's like a light is turned on in a dark room when you read The Tennis Parents Bible. Frank has so many tools to offer a tennis family, it almost feels like a cheat sheet. It is enjoyable and useful and enlightening.

HASH(0x94758120) out of 5 stars Necessary info for any parent of a junior player 2 Feb. 2013
By T. Anderson - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Not only did the information contained within the pages of The Tennis Parent's Bible help my husband and I gain insight and deeper understanding of our daughter's tennis game/practices/match play/etc, but Frank's easy way of communicating these important ideas and concepts have vaulted our daughter's national 16s ranking from over 600 to #54 in less than a year. I would strongly recommend every tennis parent keep a copy of this book on their computer/iPad/mobile device for easy reference at all times.
