This is an excellent story by Kitty Thomas, which covers many levels including the physicality and psychology of her main characters within this plausible plot line and in the encapsulating BDSM scenarios she writes about. Grace, a woman who recognizes BDSM clubs and scenes are no longer enough to satisfy her, who believes she would like to live as a 24/7 slave, but has she considered all it could entail? Is she submissive and masochistic enough for the reality she thinks she seeks?
Lucas, the wealthy and seemingly patient Master, living on a unique introverted, self governing island that accepts slavery in it's truest sense; tells her that the commitment made is for life, backed by law and not something a dissatisfied slave can walk away from if the lifestyle doesn't suit. He uses the Internet to tempt and groom Grace, whilst making clear what the commitment could entail, yet not clarifying the extent of his personally sadistic role. Lainey, Grace's friend trying to show the potential very real dangers of Internet relationships and discourage her from committing to a slave lifestyle that has no regress.
Asher, another wealthy slave owner and Dominant Master, with a past tragedy concealed, who still hasn't come to terms with his conscience. All combine into their allocated story line to bring about a mixture of emotions to the reader from longing to experience to the despairing horrors of what may occur. How it will end after the roller coaster of emotional, psychological and physical bombardment that Kitty Thomas puts her characters through only the readers will know. However, it should leave readers and those who wish to participate whether on the peripheries or in a 24/7 commitment to BDSM lifestyle and scenes more aware of possible pitfalls in the reality versus fantasy realm. English is also good and altogether it has to be worthy of five stars in my opinion and I recommend it to adults, particularly those interested in aspects of BDSM.

For an entire year, Lucas groomed Grace long distance into becoming his slave on an exclusive island where Master is ruler over all and slaves have little to no rights. Smart, funny charming he seems to be everything Grace wants from the kink lifestyle but soon lives to regret her decision. Tender Mercies by Kitty Thomas picks up Eight month after Grace arrived on the Island and she's in a living nightmare. Lucas is the Master from Hell putting Grace through the most unimaginable torture, sick twisted things all trying to break her spirit so he can own her completely.

Several times this book was turned on its head with its plot twists, just when you think it's going one way Kitty Thomas takes a 180 and blows your mind. Lucas was a character i hated. I hated him with a fiery vengeance, he's the kind of character you would happily see burn in Hell and not feel regret over it. He was truly evil with the things he did to Grace, and thankfully we didn't get in depth details because just the hint of things was enough. I'd wondered how the story would go if he was the hero, and then Asher appeared.

Asher the antithesis to Lucas and suddenly this story had the kind of Master Slave relationship i'd been waiting for. We see Asher at the beginning of the book when an 'Omg' moment happens, something i had not expected (the first of Kitty Thomas' 180 moves!) he's living with what happened, when he sees the rough treatment Grace is having to endure, wants her instantly. Buys her from Lucas.

And that's when the story finally has some heat to it. He's not a soft Master, but as he tells Grace he will never harm her. He punishes, he makes the frightened broken Grace whole again and it was beautiful to read. It was almost like reading a romance with extreme BDSM tossed into the mix.

This is the first book I've read from this author and it will certainly not be my last- I truly couldn't put it down!

This is a fantastic book about love, courage, suspense, super hot sex scenes and finding that right person that matches all your desires perfectly.

This is the story of Grace, who decides to leave her normal life to live on an island as a slave, as she finds her local BDSM scene lacking. The book starts months later with Grace completely broken by an abusing person claiming to be a master. Grace is rescued by Asher, who has his own tormented past, and the two of them together build a beautiful BDSM relationship that helps both of them heal.

A brilliant book with characters that you can't help but connect with and a story full of twists along the way. A book you can't put down all the way to its beautiful HEA.

My first introduction to Kitty Thomas was when I read Comfort Food. Dare I say although I was shocked at what I was reading (a novice to the world of BDSM) she has fast become one of my favourite novelists. Her books are extreme but her storylines of BDSM and fetishism are the best examples of the erotica genre. Her writing is compelling but also sexy and she is not afraid to explore the darkest facets of sexual gratification and perversion whilst weaving the reader into an adrenaline filled storyline with intense romance.

Like most of her books I wasn't sure what I was going to get when I began Tender Mercies but again she produced an adrenaline packed story. Tender Mercies (well named) introduces the reader to the island dedicated to promoting a Master/Slave society where only the death of the slave warrants punishment. She explores the perversions of kink and the traumas that captivity brings and follows this up with the struggle of post-traumatic stress.

Kitty Thomas doesn't write smut- well not to me she doesn't as her books (I believe) are above that. Her sex scenes are powerful and they go from sensuous and serious to delicious and disturbing. Her writing takes you on a journey as it leads you into the storyline of trust and captivity, the surrendering of the slave to another human allowing the slave to open herself to pain in return.

Some of us might regard Asher as Grace's White Knight and some of us might compare Lucas Stone to the Devil - I did. Asher was (at times) a tender Master to Grace but he had his own issues with forgiveness and guilt and is carrying a broken heart. Sometime I thought these issues would lead him to hurt Grace but they don't.
