TENACIOUS D Tenacious D (2002 UK 21-track CD album featuring the debut album from Jack Black and Kyle Gass with a guest appearance from Dave Grohl on drums including the singles Tribute and Wonderboy picture sleeve)
Biting, sometimes-base satire and humour populate this 21-track comedy-rock debut from actor-musician Jack Black and his band, Tenacious D. Sort of like a trashier, more casual and less musical Beck, vocalist-guitarist Black and guitarist-vocalist Kyle Gass--with help from Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, Redd Kross's Steve McDonald and Page McConnell of Phish--deliver oddball musings that will appeal mostly to fans of the talented Black, who has earned a following thanks to frenetic turns in the films High Fidelity and Jesus' Son. The songs and "bits" include the wonderfully, intentionally melodramatic "Wonderboy", Black ordering "four Chicken McNuggets" on "Drive Thru" and the funny ode to metaller Ronnie James Dio, where Black observes, "Dio has rocked for a very long time / Now it's time for him to pass the torch." With often intentionally droll and dumb humour, this more-comedy-than-rock debut is likely to achieve cult status. --Katherine Turman

the likes of tribute and wonderboy come close to this (in that there is very little swearing on them) and they stand out because of this. that said, for a rock comedy record, this is THE cross over record to buy, musicaly outstanding, comicly brilliant and good to play air guitar to with out feeling at all silly. all in all a good record to relax with on your own or with a few mates, sharing the laughs and the rock. buy it if you like music and love comedy.
The album is great and the only predictable thing is that you know you are going to laugh from start to finish!
Personal favourite tracks for me would be the heroic "Wonderboy", the funky sounding "Kielbasa" and the weirdly sweet "F**k Her Gently". Black is very clever with his funny lyrics, so this album will be enjoyed from start to finish.
If your a fan of Jack Black and love funny bands mixed with a bit of cool Rock and Metal, buy this CD. Let's hope they make a follow up!
This isn't meant to be taken seriously: these guys are comedians after all. You only have to look at the song list to know what you're going to get with this album so if you find swearing or sex jokes distasteful it really isn't going to be your thing. At all.
However, if songs about "humping discretely" make you giggle into your schnitzel then you'll love this album and will probably end up quoting it to all and sundry.
The music is excellent, the perfomances without flaw, they could be a brilliant rock band solely on this merit. But what you get is humour Joe Black style. If you've seen his films you'll know what to expect, and he does not disappoint. F**K her gently is rude but hilarious. Heck all the tracks are excellent and guaranteed to make you smile and probably laugh out loud too.
I've collected some Tenacious D MP3, and my only critisism is that good as this album is, it isn't their best stuff. If you can get hold of "I'm the only gay eskimo" or "Jesus Ranch" or even "The History of Tenacious D" those tracks will truely knock your socks off. MEGA BRILL STYLE!
To sum it up, I bought this album and it is the best album I own and I have literally 500 plus. Musically its brilliant and a dream to listen to at any time, but when you take the time to listen to the lyrics then you'll howl with laughter. I'm not keen on the skits, the talky sketches, they are humourous (C**K Pushups for example), but I prefer their musical stuff.
Buy This album and you won't be disappointed. But you want sheer brilliance track down "I'm the only gay eskimo" by Tenacious D and see what I mean. These guys rock big time, and I can not wait for the next album.
Who wrote this, me baby me, that's who!
Probably you would think I am mad... but believe me this record is that good, I never got tired of listening to it.
... You won't regret a cent...
Let the music play!

Tenacious D's first album is still their best album, it's not a serious album it's a comedy album. Personally I prefer the lonely island but this is amazing for people who love... Read morePublished 12 months ago by Sam Davey
Like a bad,frat-school version of Ween without the good tunes and good production.
The 'joke' wears off about 10 seconds into each song.
