Product Description

"Blue eyed soul" is a phrase that was coined with Steve Ellis in mind. Having fronted over the years Love Affair, Ellis, Widowmaker and Scarlet he is now focusing on his solo career and has just recorded a stunning solo album with his band The Big City Allstars. One of the tracks "Healing Touch" reunites Steve with the writers Cason/Gaydon who wrote two of his biggest hits "Everlasting Love" and "Rainbow Valley" from his days in Love Affair. An enhanced CDR promotional video of "Please Please Me" is included on the CD.

Review

"Formally of Love Affair, Steve Ellis sang on Everlasting Love and Rainbow Valley, two late sixties singles of such exquisite beauty that it would have scarcely mattered if he never recorded anything again. Four decades on, though, 61 year-old Ellis has returned with an album that once again displays his talent for marrying hard-edged rock vocals to sweet pop tunes . Healing touch and Ellis's own Perfect Sunday, are sublime, and the singer shows his talent for picking cover material with a sparkling version of Neil Young's On The Way Home."
-- ***** The Sunday Express

"The former Love Affair singer proves that old rock stars don't necessarily die if they have a sweet enough voice and and still understand what makes an astoundingly good pop song"
-- Sunday Express Album of the Year List 2011

Another great album from Steve Ellis, who may not make many albums, but what he does put out is nonetheless of top quality. 'Ten Commitments' offers up yet more fine examples of why Steve is so highly regarded as a vocalist by the likes of Roger Daltrey and Paul Weller. As well as some excellent self-penned material, Steve also weighs in with some equally fine covers - such as his version of The Beatles' 'Please Please Me', and the Buffalo Springfield opus 'On The Way Home', and delivers them with honest-to-goodness flair and blue-eyed soul power. Steve is no museum piece, 60's relic trading off past glories; he's as vital and driven as ever, and 'Ten Commitments' shows that time simply hasn't laid a glove on his golden vocals. Give it a go - it will bring many rewards in the cold winter nights ahead!

Welcome back Steve Ellis, and with a brand new album of new material, including the odd cover version for good measure!

Steve is still in fine voice after all these years and the musicianship on this album is great.

The songs are well written, beautifully paced and the cover of 'Please Please Me' is...pleasing!

As an album, it is a little short by modern standards (about 36 minutes) but it is the quality that counts, and we have that in spades.

A great album.

Should have replaced Steve Marriott in the Small Faces. Not as strong as his last album but still well worth a listen.Like Terry Reid a national treasure up there with the best of British rock singers.Listen to Love Affair without prejudice, they could have been a great band but suffered a similar fate to Brinsley Schwartz.
