This is a very fast paced story that explores the relationships formed when one of the partners has a dangerous job. Scarlett is there on a research project to finish her degree. She is getting to know all of the men and doing a documentary to find out why they do it. Blaze never expected Scarlett or the feelings he instantly had for her.
I liked the fact that this story highlights the families of these men and women. This is a dangerous job and that takes a toll on relationships. After Scarlett realizes that Blaze is not going to give up on his job, she has to come to terms with it. I also liked the fact that Blaze was not okay with her being out in the field. He instantly became very protective of her.
Em Petrova does a wonderful job of expressing the emotion that happens between people when they are afraid for someone else and the camaraderie between these men and women. The one thing that perhaps I would question is that Scarlett had no training before she went into the field with the men. She had never jumped out of plane and her focus in school was not wild land firefighting, so I'm not sure the she would have been taken to an active scene. But this is a great story about love at first sight and then figuring out how to stay together.
I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Then reality set in and they had to figure out how they were going to sustain a long term relationship. Will they be successful?
I love the fact that the smokejumpers are family to each other. A genuine love, loyalty, and brotherhood (with one sister). They are definitely more than meets the eye. I wish Scarlett in her documentary had focused a little more on Syd as the only female smoke jumper in the crew.
I know the book was about Scarlett and Blaze, but it would have been interesting to see read about her perception of Syd working with the smoke jumpers.
A quick read. Very intense, with a fair amount of steamy scenes. A concentration on whether or not the fires of love can really burn that hot or that fast and maintain over time.
