The Tellatale® Doorway Theatre offers a refreshingly creative alternative to on-screen entertainment and a magical opportunity for inventive role-play. Budding directors will love to recount classic tales like Jack and the Beanstalk or Goldilocks and the Three Bears; or even invent their own sparkling storyline: will the wicked Witch meet her match in magical Merlin?

Well to be begin with it's extremely compact, it rolls up easily and takes up very little space. It's loads of fun to make up plays and perform with soft toys, action figures and puppets etc.., lots of imaginative play, however the fun stops when the support pole collapses and hits the children on the head. It all ends in tears.
We thought we must have had one with a faulty pole, so Amazon promptly sent a replacement. Sadly we must have got a bad batch as the second Tellatale Doorway Puppet Theatre was also found to be not holding securely. Both my husband and I have tried securing it but to no avail, it is prone to give way and come crashing down, and although it is reasonably light weight, the extending pole is made of metal so it does hurt when it lands on little ones heads.
So.... as the children loved it so much, we came up with a solution of fixing little wooden semi-circle cut out wooden wedges on each of the bedroom doors and the front room door to so that the puppet theatre has extra support, and to prevent anyone getting hurt again.
I am 50/50 between recommending and not recommending this product, for the love of putting on shows and performing I would have to say the idea of this Puppet Theatre is fantastic for it's compact nature and ease of use, you can put it up in seconds, and stores away easily and even more importantly it's fun. However from a safety perspective I feel that more is needed to be included in the box to secure it safely in doorways for obvious reasons, it's not just a little bump on the head when it falls it's quite a knock.
Luckily my husband is quite handy and he made and installed the supporting wooden brackets in a few hours, painted them white and they're barely noticeable, but my concern would be that for the amount of money that you pay for a piece of fabric and a few pieces of dowel, that the company that makes the doorway puppet theatre (Fiesta, I believe) should be including the added safety feature to avoid any problems with the white extender pole not holding tightly.
A couple of the poles were dirty when I opened the box which was a bit of a worry. But I rang Fiesta Crafts and spoke to a lovely man who was really helpful and sent out replacements straight away.
Since then it's been non-stop puppet show time in our house. The kids and us are all loving it - what a great alternative to video games!
