5.0 out of 5 stars Like a Yellow Pages of Great Childrens Books 30 Mar. 2014
By Chris - Published on Amazon.com

After buying the authors previous book to find more information on great books for 2 year olds I decided to give this a shot also to get some material for my 10 year old to read, once again it is filled with gems. Lots of the titles will just be a reminder of classics that every child should know about (my daughter already had 3 of the books listed) but there were also many titles that I had never heard of and the books I've followed up on didn't disappoint so far.

As the author points out toward the start of the book, there are literally hundreds of thousands of choices of childrens books out there, this is a great idea for a book that will help you get the titles that will keep children engaged and learning. Long term it's a money saver and a tool to help educate your child.
5.0 out of 5 stars There's a Book out There for Every Child! 2 April 2014

One concern you might have in buying this title might be that it might not accurately portray what the kids you buy for might like in any particular title. I would like to reassure you that you shouldn't have anything to worry about! The author not only gives a great summary as well as attractive things about each book, she also tells you when a book might be suited toward a more advanced reader or an older child or younger one - how can you go wrong with that? I don't think you can.

Another big plus in my mind is that whilst there are two sections (books for 6-8 year olds and books for 9-12 year olds) in this title, in each section there are categories such as classics, early readers, series, and more!

And for those of you who might be wondering, this title is an abridged version of the author's book, Tell Me A Story: A Parent's Review of 250 Great Books for Kids - I bought it anyway because I like having the ability to share the book with friends whilst still having access to my copy.

Great stuff! Hope for more books from Ms. Sanford.
5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT RESOURCE! 3 April 2014

Even though I owned the author's previous title: Tell Me A Story: 250 Great Books for Kids, when I saw she was breaking the work into two volumes, I wanted them too. The original was a godsend for me this past holiday season, having been out of touch for some time with what was current in children's literature previous to that purchase.

I very much appreciate the division between age groups in the current volumes, makes it easier to zero in on what is appropriate to the child for which I'm buying. With my age related shortened attention span, sometimes going through big volume ended up with me getting distracted just enjoying the reviews, rather than getting down to business. At least now, with ages 6-12 I'm always in the right ballpark!

I can recommend these books to anyone who reads to, or buys books for kids. Truly an indispensable guide to both old and new classics!
