There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
It arrived quickly but after plugging it in, my router wouldn’t re-connect to the network.
I couldn’t determine what the issue was so assumed that the cable must be faulty. I got in touch with the seller (RGB Networks) who responded very quickly and, after explaining the problem, they offered to send me a replacement.
Whilst waiting for it to arrive, I thought I’d do a bit of googling to see if I could find any instances where others have had issues when replacing their ADSL cables.
I did find an article on the subject, though it was aimed at people whose service provider is BT (which mine is). Basically, the ADSL cable that BT provide has RJ11 plugs at both ends, whilst the port on the socket faceplate is actually a RJ45 port. Ordinarily this shouldn’t be a problem as, apparently, RJ45 ports are designed to also accept RJ11 plugs, but connectivity issues can arise because of it.
So, I gave it another go, taking care to ensure that the plug was inserted centrally and this time the router fired up without any issues… proving that the original cable was in fact good.
Anyway, the upshot to all of this is that I have now managed to find my routers sweet spot and, as a result, am getting vastly improved signals throughout the house… job done.
Overall this cable has proved its worth and, even though I initially assumed it was faulty (incorrectly as it turned out), the service and support I received from RGB Networks was first class.
I don’t know if this RJ45/RJ11 scenario applies to all types of faceplate that BT (or any other ISP) provides, but I do now know that it does apply to the version I have (a VDSL Interstitial faceplate). So, for anyone who initially experiences the same connectivity issues I had, this is well worth looking out for.
Ultimately, I can recommend this cable.
My router is now in a better location and the speed is fine.
