Product Description

Product Description

Vieux Farka Touré (Mali) and Idan Raichel (Israel), virtuosic superstars from very different backgrounds, join together to create masterworks of collaboration and improvisation. After a chance meeting in an airport in Europe, Idan and Vieux forged a deep friendship that led to an impromptu get together at a small studio in Tel Aviv in November 2010. Joined by Israeli bassist Yossi Fine and Malian calabash player Souleymane Kane, Idan and Vieux improvised a masterful selection of songs that capture the unbridled creativity and inspired collaboration of these four brilliant musicians. The sessions - acoustic, spontaneous, entirely improvised, and stunningly beautiful - could only be described as magic, and The Touré-Raichel Collective was born. On the album The Tel Aviv Session, Idan and Vieux have captured an inspired musical moment that will bring to mind classic albums such as Talking Timbuktu by Ali Farka Touré with Ry Cooder, Keith Jarrett's The Köln Concert or Vincent Segal and Ballake Sissoko's acclaimed Chamber Music.

Review

'Toure's extraordinary guitar playing blends perfectly with Raichel's hypnotic keyboard - Bamba sways gently, and pulls you easily under its spell. It's the sound of four expert musicians bouncing off each other and creating something rather special.' --MusicOMH

Bought this without having heard any of it. Listened to Vieux Farka Toure before and liked but no previous experience of Idan Raichel. From the opening notes I was hooked. A spellbinding collection of tracks that pull the listener into a magical world of musical talent and creativity. I believe that whatever sort of music you listen to, this album will hit your spot somewhere along the way. Perfection on plastic...
