The actifry is very easy to use, i used to make home made chunky oven chips weaning himself off the hideous fryer!!) but this is so much better, the chips are always crispy and can add seasonings and use olive oil. It takes around 40 mins but the result is well worth it and my oven chunky chips took the same time using much more power with the oven on and had to turn them 1/2 way through.) Cannot recommend the actifry enough no greasy smoke, no chipshop stink in your house, yes its expensive but if it saves me painting the kitchen yet again after a few months im more than happy. Have used it to make little roasty potatoes & worked really well havent tried to cook other stuff yet you can cook curry, casseroles, chicken lots of other dinners in it) but am sure it will be easy. It is also very easy to clean, all bits come apart for dishwasher or sink washing.
To my annoyance and then amusement at the totally inept customer services response they gave me, I received the following three replies:
"We can assure you that all our products are very extensively researched before and during the design stage and have a high level of quality control checks carried out at this stage and throughout manufacture. They carry safety certificates issued by both British and European Safety Authorities and therefore have to be of a high specification to pass stringent tests set by these independent authorities." (They're safe. We're not responsible for durability.)
"We understand your concerns regarding the guarantee and the quality of the product. As consumers treat products differently in use and expectations differ greatly, there is no legal guarantee of durability." (We can't be responsible if you use it too much.)
"If you have your receipt for the product then you could return your product to your point of purchase as according to the Sale of Goods Act (which is completely separate to the manufacturer’s guarantee) your Contract of Sale remains always with the retailer for up to 6 years. According to the Sale of Goods Act it is the retailer that should resolve the problem for you and not the manufacturer." (We make a rubbish product but it's not our problem, it's the fault of the person who sold it to you.) I can just imagine the response from Amazon if I go them and tell them that Tefal agree that they've produced a substandard product, but it's your fault for selling it to me .......
I am open mouthed at the extent to which Tefal clearly don't care about their customers' opinions. Basil Fawlty is a paragon of virtue next to them.
One Friday when I'd had ours 3 weeks I removed the perspex lid to wash, a tiny piece of perspex fell off. On examination there was a crack right through the piece where the eject lever fits. I rang Amazon who said to return it and it would be replaced on Monday. I broke the bad news to my husband that he would not get his customary full English on Sunday, without my lovely Actifry. Unbelievably the replacement arrived the very next day.
Thanks Amazon for the outstanding service.
The standard size one easily prepares enough for 4 - I wouldn't recommend the family-size one unless you're catering for a football team. We've also learnt that sometimes, a tablespoon of oil is too much, you only need half.
The one improvement they could make is to tie the timer in with the power, so that it turns off when the timer finishes, but hey-ho, you can't have everything. Dishing up is easy, you just take the pan thing out (it has a folding handle) and tip stuff onto the plates. It all comes apart for cleaning very easily.
Overall, top notch.
