The BL-700 battery charger has four independent charging channels each of which allow for independent charging, discharging, refreshing or testing of any AA or AAA rechargeable battery, both NiCd and NiMH.
Perfect for charging odd numbers of batteries (1,2,3 or 4)
Each battery slot has its own LCD providing real time information relating to the status of every battery so you can view actual charge/discharge current, terminal voltage, accumulated mAh and elapsed time per cell.
You can perform different functions on each battery simultaneously. You can set the charge current at different levels for each of the four batteries and you can also charge different sizes (AA or AAA) at the same time.
Select the charge current of your choice for a gentle or fast charge at either 200mA, 500mA, 700mA. Charging is specifically limited to a maximum of 700mA which is designed to protect your batteries from damaging over charging which reduces the life of modern low self discharge batteries.
The Refresh Mode does a very good job of reviving tired, neglected or abused batteries by automatically charging and discharging until optimum performance is achieved.
This charger is perfect for matching batteries into similarly performing sets and does an excellent job of identifying failing cells within a set.
Supplied with a 12 month manufacturers warranty and suitable for charging any NiMH or NiCd rechargeable AA/AAA battery with capacity up to 3000mAh.
UK version, UK power supply.

Changing the charge rate is a bit strange but easy when you know how - power up the charger, press the current button immediately after inserting the batteries and stop at the desired setting. If you want different settings for each cell (only likely with mixed types of batteries) then you must first press the individual selection button. After 8 seconds the displays then flash indicating the end of the change window and charging starts. The display can then be changed without affecting the charge cycle or even for each cell individually using the individual selection buttons. If you get it wrong you have to take out all the batteries and I believe it best to unplug the supply to reset the change timer and start again.
All a bit confusing (hence only 4 stars) but the results are worth it.
And oh boy, it didn't.
When I started Refreshing the batteries (discharge/charge/discharge/charge mode) to revive them, the new charger rated them as 200mA (against a nominal 1900mA), but after a few cycles this gradually increased to 700mA, 1000mA, 1500mA and we ended at 1600mA. Not bad for 5 year old batteries! One of the cells charged even had the starting capacity rated as 20mA.
Normally I'd have to replace the cells, or charge each one separately in the old charger - but the Technoline saved me from all that, no need to wonder which of four batteries isn't charged completely, this charger is smart enough to give them all the treatment they need automatically.
Having said that, please read the manual first, as it's not as simple as it seems ;-)
Highly recommended - saved me the expense of replacing old batteries, giving them a new lease of life.
This charger seems to have greatly improved the situation by getting the maximum capacity out of all working cells and highlighting those to be chucked.
I might look around for an 8 cell version - which would be even better for me since the refresh does take a long time (even using the middle chargeing option) and I intend to follow their advice by refreshing brand new packs.
The 8 seconds is no problem - if I, a pensioner with semi arthritic fingers can programme it first time off then most others can - press the mode button down and hold for about a second, tap it a few times to tell it what to do and then hit the current button to set the carge rate. That will set all four cells to do the same thing. I agree that programming each cell to do something different could be more of a challenge.
I dithered over this one because of reviews saying it was complicated and technical. Perhaps it is, but it doesn't have to be. The instruction leaflet was a bit daunting but it couldn't be simpler.
You slot the battery in and it gives you a battery level reading. If it needs recharging you press the little grey button below the battery, click the mode button until it shows charge, or discharge/refresh. Insert another battery, repeat. Leave them until it says full.
No doubt there is more to it but that's enough for me.
This does exactly what I wanted, and does it well.
Delivery of this Technoline charger was fast, and, on removing it from the box it was clear how well engineered it is. The UK power adaptor fits precisely into the main body of the charger and the cord length is ample. The large LCD display gives a clear indication of charging status and battery condition for each of the four charging slots. AA or AAA cells snap decisively into the four slots provided - you then have independent control over each of the four cells that are inserted - you can control charging/discharging plus adjust the charging current, so, if you're not in a hurry you can lengthen the life of your cells with a lower charge current. You can also "recondition" cells using the BL700. Even at the lowest rate of charge the charge time of my Eneloop batteries is much faster than using the official Sanyo charger and the cells seem to last just as long.
This charger will effectively pay for itself very quickly. It is also flexible in terms of function, easy to use and very well made indeed. Recommended.
