We liked it!!!

Having read the previous reviews about this I wanted to add my thoughts to redress the balance a little. My son and I really like this toy!
I will admit that it took longer to make than I had anticipated, but having said that, that is part of the enjoyment of it. My son is 9 and we took a couple of hours to make it. The cables were the most difficult part, but that was the educational part of the process. He was able to develop problem solving skills by making minor adjustments to the cables, seeing what the results were and then developing the design until it worked. He got a great deal of satisfaction from seeing the finished item working.
We would highly recommend it and will be buying another, larger set.

Frustrating, but it does work fine!

I got this as a birthday present from my in-laws as they were not sure what to get me. I figured I would give it a go one Sunday and slowly started to put together the main structure. As people have said the problems do really start when you have to assemble the cable runner, which to be honest did take me some hours to get aligned right! In saying that though they do reach correctly and the whole system works fine (been circulating marbles for an hour now). (To get the motor working the bottom cog must be pushed on hard!)

I am not sure why the other two adult reviewers have failed to build this as it just requires a large amount of patience to line everything up!

On the whole this was more annoying than fun, but it will go together and work if you persist.

Absolute waste of time and money. Prepare to be disappointed!

My two sons aged 5 and 7 got this the christmas. My 7 year old is incredibly good at making things but his father had to put this up for them. Well, when I say his father put it up what I actually mean is my husband spent hours trying to attach fiddly and shoddily made inadaquate and ill fitting parts. The final straw came when attaching the ridiculous cable which is from what the marbles roll down. he cable was too long and meant to be attached in such a way by silly grps that could not hold the cable and took much fiddling around with to try and make it a viable 'run' for the marbles. Well, unlike the previous reviewer, we never got as far as turning the motor on we simply could not getthe cable attached properly.

My sons were so looking forward to this and saw it as the next step up from a ELC marble run toy. I am so angered atthe shoddy and badly made pieces that I feel completely conned to be quite honest.

Do not waste your money on this item. My husband is a chartered engineer whose job it is to design and build small, complicated devices and even he could not get this thing to work!

I really don't see why this has so many bad reviews! I am 13 and I could still build this within 3 hours and yes the wire was a bit of a hassle it just requires a bit of patience. I would reccomend this product to anyone who has spare time for a fun project

Ok be warned if you are the sort of person who, isn't patient, want's instant gratification, can't think for themselves, want's the answers giving to them, gets bored easily...don't buy this!
On the other hand if you like to have to figure things out a bit for yourself, tinker with things, and don't like the following the pack mentality, buy this. Took about 2 1/2 hours to get to run, built by my self and my five year old son.
If thinking of buying for a child to do on their own, probably would need to be at least a 12 year old, and or very into meccano or similar.
As some have mentioned, getting the cables right, yes it is fiddly, and yes if you don't get them right the marbles fly in all directions, but by following a logical progression of adjustment, success can be achieved.
Also the parts that attach to the 'chain' to lift the balls...very poorly sized and tended to fall off, but a few drops of glue later and the problem was solved.

Techno-balls 269 - balls it is!

This was given to my son by his godmother and I have wasted most of a day putting it together for him. It is rated as age 8 and above, but I would be amazed if any child under the age of 13 could put it together. Using cables to form the helter-skelter is incredibly inept as it is extremely fiddly and frustrating to put together so that the marbles would successfully go down it. Once I had succeeded and switched it on, I then discovered that the motor or switch did not work, so the whole assembly was useless. When I rotated the chain by hand, I could get it to work a bit, but doing that highlighted the poor fit quality of the parts, which caused the gearbox to fall out just about every rotation. The whole thing really is a useless heap of rubbish - avoid.

Not superb, but not a failure

Bought second hand at a Christmas Fair - was a little disappointed when I discovered there were no instructions in the box, and couldn't find any on the internet - but then everyone says they are not very good. Nevertheless, with reference to the picture on the box and a bit of common-sense I got it going.
Yes, it did take a bit of time aligning the cables, but it was very satisfying to see the marbles rolling down, and then being lifted back to the top to start again.

got 12 hours spare you will need it. then when you finish building it try turning it on nothing happens lots of effort with no payback
