Product Description

'Markel is the best all-round technical writing textbook I have used. It combines a process approach to writing tasks with careful attention to the writing context and rhetoric. It is readable with engaging visuals and exercises. My students give Markel high ratings for accessibility and clarity. And the text does a good job of modeling what it teaches.' - Nancy C. Martinez, University of New Mexico, USA

If you buy this book as a Kindle e-version, be aware that it is not available on all devices! I cannot access it from my Android smartphone (which is runs on Jelly Bean) nor from the Kindle Cloud Reader on a computer browser! You can only access this on a Kindle Device, a tablet, or a computer that has the Kindle App downloaded and installed. I do not have admin access on my work computer to install Kindle for PC. When I realized I couldn't access this book from my Kindle Android App, I figured I'd just read it on the web with the Cloud Reader, but when I click on it to view it or download it, I get a message saying that it is not available on Kindle Cloud Reader.

Technically, there is a small line at the top of this page that says "only available on certain devices" but I was VERY frustrated to discover that the Kindle app for Android phones is not one of them!

update: I just learned by calling Amazon that the restriction is at the publisher level. Amazon offered me a refund on my Kindle rental and a paperback rental for $28 for the rest of the semester. So, the inconvenience earlier described still exists, but Amazon helped ameliorate the situation so I don't have to deal with it anymore. I can deal with a paperback textbook if it means I can actually read it anywhere like I thought I'd be able to with the Kindle version.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very useful textbook 5 Aug. 2014

This is a good textbook for developing technical communication skills. I used it for an online course and it provided enough detail to easily understand everything without having an instructor give lectures on the material. Also, it is a great reference for how to format different types of documents.

If you are looking to improve your writing for any sort of professional documents (reports, presentations, résumés, business letters, etc.), then I recommend using this textbook.

5.0 out of 5 stars textbook on technical writting 26 Jan. 2014
By Arenitas - Published on Amazon.com

It discusses such things as etiquette, ethics, email, resume writting, etc. Two or three examples are given of a particular subject, and it is discussed in the text and in comment boxes. Wording is clear and precise, does not ramble (thank God!)

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy the printer version. Don't use this book on a Kindle, if you need it. 17 April 2015

Terrible, terrible book. Boring. I've read similar books and they had a better view on how to write this information. I also hated the way it was set on my Kindle. I couldn't read anything because it was so small and I had to zoom in. then, when I tried to turn the page, it wouldn't let me because it was zoomed in. It constantly tried highlighting words when I was just trying to follow where I was reading. it was expensive too. i should've just bought the printed version. That's how bad this was.
