This book was beyond romantic and sweet. I have read all the books in this series and have loved them all but this one is a clear favorite This is the 4th book in the series and it stands alone as they all do but I do feel that keeping everyone straight might be tough if you don't slowly meet the characters and if you don't read each book. This book does feature all the soccer players and their girlfriends and I totally loved that about this story.
This is the story about The Russian, he is a pro soccer player and he owns part of the team I believe. The ownership was not super clear in this story but he is a huge part of the soccer team. Carla is the girl who has a big crush on him. She is a pro womans basketball player but who is injured and takes side jobs as a reporter.
In this story she realises its time to retire and so she is trying to find a permanent gig as a reporter. I loved that she really was a big part of sports world and really understood the work and pressures on other pro players.
The first part of the story, is very slow going. It needs to be because Carla is a new character, where the Russian we met in previous books. This book is also entirely from Carla's POV and truly I felt the book suffered a bit from that in the early part of the book. I really wanted to hear The Russians thoughts as he starts to really see Carla.
Once the story gets going and The Russian starts to get into Carla well thats when I started LOVING this story and the first sex scene was beyond romantic, sweet, sexy and HOT!! I loved how Carla and The Russian bring sports into their sex life.
Along the way, The Russian has ALOT of issues. ALOT!! And I liked how Carla dealt with him and his issues. I also loved how they both are there for the other. I cannot tell you what the issues were because well the surprise is what kept me on the edge as I read this book.
This book was really great. I really, absolutely LOVED this story and the characters. While I would have wanted to hear The Russians thoughts in certain scenes, this story really worked as single voice and I really LOVED it!!
Ally Adams did a great job grabbing my attention and holding my interest. Her writing style, specially the humor in it, made it a very enjoyable read. The story seemed to flow across the pages. There were some interesting conflicts during the story and several characters in the book that I’d like to learn more about.
Carla Brooker is a professional basketball player for the Suns. At the beginning of the story we learn that she’s going through a series of difficult events. I love that she isn’t giving up or waiting for someone to rescue her. She’s independent, she’s strong and she’s doing her very best to put away the bad and embrace the good. I especially admire that she’s grateful for everything in her life. When she finds the opportunity to get close to the man of her dreams, she goes for it.
The Russian, Alex Renwick, is someone you fall in love with since the beginning. He is a dark and handsome athlete, it’s impossible not to be interest in him. He has the looks, but most importantly, he seems to have the best attitude towards Carla. It’s obvious from the start that there’s chemistry between this two characters. I specially enjoyed their verbal banter:
We couldn’t have a good plot if there weren’t some twists, turns and difficulties. Besides Carla’s career being about to end due to an injury, there’s several situations that they must face. The Russian is mysterious and it takes some time to understand why he has his reservations when it comes to start a relationship with her, even if it’s clear he’s more than interested.
This is a great read!
I received a complementary advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
