Manufacturer's Description

This 15-hour interactive multimedia training course is accredited by the Association for Project Management and NCC Education Services. You will learn how to clarify project objectives and build realistic schedule and cost predictions, develop detailed plans incorporating PERT charts and critical path analysis and implement effective reporting, quality and change regimes for each project initiative. It comprises three separate 5-hour modules and is equivalent in scope to a four-day instructor led course.

The course will run on any multimedia PC with a sound card and is presented using a combination of specially developed 3D graphics, animation and interactivity. This provides a stimulating one-on-one multimedia learning environment that is packed with interactive exercises, case studies and questions. It is made up of self-contained sections, each representing approximately 15 minutes of training, which means that it can either be used intensively or be fitted into a busy work schedule.

This is an excellent IT project management course. It is logically arranged in three separate sub-courses (one on each CD) of 5 hours duration. There are no industry-specific assumptions other than the project in question is an IT project and the author has gone to great lengths to present a method that is as flexible as possible as regards the size of the project.
The first 5 hour module, Organising a Project, deals with who should have what responsibilities and how the reporting paths should be set up. The course forwards the type of structure used in formal project management methods like PRINCE but includes plenty of advice on how this can be tuned to suit your own organisation and specific project. It also deals in depth with the common problems of matrix management where the project manager does not have total control over all of the resources working on the project.
Planning a Project follows a very 'deliverables' oriented approach to the areas of planning and scheduling the work. It covers PERT charts and critical path analysis in depth as well as some less obvious areas such as presenting planning information to senior management - which I haven't seen covered on any other PM course.
Controlling a Project covers all aspects of control, including how review and progress meetings should be set up and run. Quality control, change control and configuration management are all dealt with in depth and sample forms are included. There are also sections on measuring project progress using variance and earned value analysis techniques.
This training course exploits the advantages of multimedia by using lots of user interaction.
