Unfortunately, the details aren't very well explained. The reading exercises are numerous, giving you plenty of practice in reading. I suspect you're supposed to learn how to phrase from these exercises, but sometimes the phrasing seems arbitrary. No explanation is given as to why some words can be written in "one single stroke", whereas others cannot. The longhand-to-shorthand exercises are few and far in between, and though helpful in telling you how the words should be phrased, also do not give you any explanation as to why they are phrased like that.
As you progress, you'll also be given a list of common short forms, like the strokes for "and", "but" etc. This is all good and well, but it would also be useful for an additional glossary to appear in the back of the book to aid in revision. This point isn't so bad, as I can always create one myself. However, what is unforgiveable are some of the reading and copying exercises.
For example, early on in the book, you're given a word that contains the F stroke; the only problem being that you haven't yet encountered the F stroke. You're taught that in a later chapter. This is not the only example. There are other writing exercises that contain shorthand forms that have not yet been taught to you, but will eventually be taught in later chapters. There's another one where a single J stroke appears; this is the shortform for the word, large, but this has not yet been taught to you. There are also some exercises aren't quite easy to read, as the strokes seem either broken, giving the impression that there's a dot at the end of one of them signifying the -ING suffix, too thick and tehrefore making you read the wrong letter, or don't match the answer given in the back (e.g. where the outline in an exericse clearly says gates, whereas the answer in the back of the book says the word should be gate).
I myself am not happy with this book and will not be recommending it to others.
Decided I would like to brush up on it and was really happy to find this book
Received quickly and in good condition so very happy
Other than that no problems at all.
