The book does a decent enough job of covering a huge amount of material at breakneck speed, but I was always left wanting more. The 'taking it further' section could have been the avenue to further enlightenment but it's just a list of books, websites and even films, without any sort of evaluative content to help you make a choice about which ones to pick.
Having said that, this is a great introduction to Irish history covering all the turning points and key themes. This series also benefits from regular updating and is likely to be one of the most up-to-date books on Ireland you will find.
