Mr Mark Roberts - a passionate kind, strong ,loving art teacher , a beautiful man that I fell in love with as I read into this story. A widower left broken by the death of his wife nine years previous.
His student Helen Palmer , eighteen years old in the sixth form at his school. They connected with their passion for art and things escalate fast and your taken with them on this roller coaster ride. This is a love story true and deep all in all. A very well written love story of pain, passion, hurt, love. lust, want, need, and at first you think- hmm what the hell are they playing at. Teacher/ student romances I absolutely love but I found this one different, I was always waiting for something bad to happen, my heart was in my mouth most of the time whilst reading this book.
Things I didn't like ;
I didn't like Helen - as much as I tried to find that connection with her I just couldn't. She came across as whinny, childish, totally inexperienced in any way's of the world, and I know this was the point of the book, BUT for me it didn't work. For me personally if she had been a little bit wilder, more sexy, more worldly it would have gelled better for my personal choice but it didn't .
The first half of the book was slightly repetitive, and I think it took too long to get to the heart of the story. The second half totally redeemed itself and was brilliant, by then I loved Mark Roberts even more.
Although Jade has changed her writing style for this book, what didn't change was the way she writes sex !!! Yes the sex scene's are erotic, passionate, dominant, sexy, loving - all you would expect from this author and more. Heartrending and beautiful, sad sometimes in places, this book must be read, must be felt, must be experienced !!! (less)
I loved this book so much I didn't want it to end. Helen was a wonderful character, she was sexually naive, but emotionally she was very mature, I can see why Mark fell for her. Their relationship was beautiful to read, Mr Roberts was such a special, handsome, dirty, sexy and caring man, who wouldn't fall for him. The story line was excellent, well written, taboo, sexy as hell, angst ridden and I couldn't put it down. This is my first book by Jade West and I can't wait to read more. I would highly recommend this book, you won't be disappointed.
Laughter, Love, Lust, Heartbreak and Tears!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved everything about it. One part made me feel uncomfortable but that part did not include Mr. Roberts, (when Lizzie's love for Helen crossed a very clear line).
I love the relationship Helen has with her family. I think they are very realistic. Her Mum trying to help them and be a friend to Helen without losing sight of the fact that she was a Mum first. Her Dad unable to see past his little girl was growing up. Admittedly he was faced with any parents nightmare but in the end, with the support of Angela, he managed to come around, not giving his blessing but just to adopt a sense of neutrality.
I HIGHLY recommend this book.
Yes, it could be viewed as taboo in some eyes.
Yes, it may have triggers for some people.
Yes, it has some hot sex that some may call dirty.
Thank you Jade, you smashed it with this one for me! x
It's 'teach me dirty' so of course there are some dirty sex scenes but nothing too extreme. I did like Mark (I kept picturing him as Michael Sheen!) and Helen grew on me towards the end. I've never read anything by this author before and it made a change to read an English (Welsh?) author rather than the American authors I tend to read.
The ending felt a little unresolved to me although this is a standalone, I feel like the author may write a second book about Mark & Helen a few years down the line.
