About the Author
Georgina Hayden is a food writer and stylist from North London.
Growing up above her grandparents' Greek Cypriot taverna in Tufnell Park, she developed a love of cooking from the recipes passed down to her. As a teenager she ran a stall at a farmers' market and worked in restaurants, before studying Fine Art at university. Her passion for food landed her a job as a food writer and stylist on various food magazines, until she joined Jamie Oliver's food team where she worked for twelve years. She now writes, develops and styles for magazine, books, television and campaigns. She also writes an online family food blog: georginahayden.com.
Georgina's work is inspired by her family, her heritage and her love of travel. There is nothing she treasures more than cooking with her mum and her yiayia (grandmother). She documents her food adventures on her two instagram accounts @georgiepuddingnpie and @peaandthepod. Her first book, Stirring Slowly, was published in 2016, and Taverna is her second.

It has been so lovingly put together with photos and stories from Georgina Hayden’s own family, and you can really feel the love, warmth and care that has gone into making the book.
It has quickly become my favourite cookbook and I can’t wait to try out more recipes on my family and friends.
I know I’m going to love the food just as much as I love the insight into Georgina’s family life and recipe “inheritance tracks”.
Favourite recipes so far look like:
Breakfast (Fennel stuffed flatbreads, a halloumi cake - who knew?, apple/olive oil breakfast cake and strapatsada - sweet tomatoes and scrambled egg).
Meze (Toasted walnut and bean skordalia, htipiti - pepper, chilli and feta dip, fennel calamari and spicy whipped feta with cumin).
There are also chapters on:
Vegetables, grains and pulses
Baking and sweets
A fantastic array of recipes, some new, others unheard of. Most of the ingredients look easy enough to get hold of but will have to check out stockists for a couple. Have just ordered some Halloumi like cheese from Kupros Dairy so will review that when it arrived - sounds umami-ish and marshmallowy🤤
Really looking forward to cooking from it this weekend and forever more!! Once I’ve actually tried some out recipes, I’ll post another review.
Looking forward to hear how others have got on too!
