A great book for those looking to go on holiday to the states. Places to eat and recipes to try at home. Aimed at those places near U.S. college football grounds but open to all those looking for good food and atmosphere. Highly recommended.

HASH(0x8d6572c4) out of 5 stars Truly Original 5 Sept. 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
What a truly original idea for a cookbook! I am constantly trying to figure out what to make for dinner and even though there are hundreds of recipes in each cookbook I have, I still end up getting stuck in the rut of making the same thing. Taste of the Town by Todd Blackledge came along at the perfect time.

Todd has a truly original idea and executed it brilliantly! While working for ESPN and visiting different restaurants he started doing a segment called "Taste of the Town" which eventually led to putting together this cookbook.

What's truly unique about this book is that it includes the history of the place he ate at, his personal experience there and some of his favorite recipes from each place. It has a much more personal touch than any cookbook I've seen and it's fun to try new things from different areas and what they are known for.

The book includes everything you can think of from appetizers like fried green tomatoes to desserts like pumpkin cheesecake which I marked as the first I wanted to try!

As a mom, one of the things I really appreciate and actually look for in a cookbook is easy recipes that don't taste like they're easy! When I see ten plus ingredients and most of them aren't already in my pantry, I usually move on to the next. This is a great collection of simply delicious recipes that will make you feel like you are visiting your favorite place after the big game.

Taste of the Town is a wonderful addition to my cookbook collection and I'm actually looking forward to dinnertime now and trying something new and original.

HASH(0x8d6575f4) out of 5 stars Don't buy unless you travel a lot 8 May 2014

I have watched with great interest the "taste of the town" segments during college football games when Blackledge is the analyst because I have been entertained by his visits to various eateries abounding in college towns. But unless you plan to visit the places he describes you may not want to buy this book. On the other hand, if you have culinary skills many of the locations have given Todd their recipes, which you can try at home.

Todd Blackledge does a great job showcasing all of the great places he dines while covering college football. What makes his book unique in my opinion is that he includes the traditions of each school of each college town. Whether its dotting the "I" in the script Ohio, "Roll Tide", the flight of the eagle at Auburn, Todd gives you a feel for gameday all over the country. The recipies are great and the little stories about each restaraunt add to the intimate feel of each establishment. What a great combination!!!!!
