A fabulous addition to the Mathews Family Series.
This is Summer (or Ryan as he is better known to the general public) and Carrie Anne’s story and it is one that runs the gambit of emotions.
Carrie Anne was a great character, so self-assured. She really will bring a smile to your face, she isn’t afraid to call Summer out when need be and when they get into it, a battle of wills ensues and she is more than capable of handling this cocky superstar. Because to her he is just Summer, the boy she knew before his profile went global!
The story looks both back at their past and deals with some aspects of life that have shaped the people they are now. Some of those events have been hard to bear and those are not easy to read. But it is not all hardship, the two of them are delightful when they are in full flow, they are bright and funny and their relationship has the most refreshing breeze that blow through it. They brought a genuine smile to my face.
But there is one secret, one doozy that she has hung on to one, that she took her time top reveal, I was hanging by a thread… seriously it is not good for my heart that sort of tension!
I found the descriptive prose was superb, it encouraged my imagination to draw and colour their own pictures. Although I am pretty sure my image of Summer would be X-rated if it was in the public domain- sorry but the guy is just so damn hot and has always been, Woohoo!!!
When what might have slipped through your fingers is within your grasp again and it would be a fool to let that go.
When you have longed for that person, when they are all that you can see, you have to make the most of every opportunity, Carrie Anne and Summer had, had their time and then it was gone, but after a decade they get a second bite at the cherry, the chance to have it all over again but in glorious technicolour, because for this pair in an all too real grown up version of those early days… second time is a charm!

Ah Beverly, you just can't go wrong really with a Beverly Preston book. She writes hot romance with emotion and she writes it bloomin' well every time.

Summer and Carrie Ann were childhood sweethearts and the events of the end of his football career also ended his relationship with Carrie Ann. Ten years later they get a second change, manipulated a bit by Ryan, he certainly took advantage of circumstance and leapt in with both feet.

I kept thinking as I was reading through, would I be able to take back a person after the events, and I really couldn't answer that, so I was in two minds if Carrie Ann should have taken him back or not. In fiction though, of course it's the perfect read, will they, won' they they? Keeps you on your toes throughout.

The star of the book is Aspen! A big shout out to the four legged friend. The interaction with Aspen whether from love and cuddles, to puppy training and indeed 'mishaps with nature' equal priceless pages of endearment. I love a good four legged friend in my romance reads and Aspen is up there with the greatest.

This book is pretty great for a holiday read, it's pure and simply a feel good, sexy, rumpy-pumpy read. Well worth your time and pennies for a great piece of escapism done the Beverly way. Beverly writes in third person, the story is narrated to you, so if that's your preference and you can't gel with 1st person reads, then WAVING at ya! You'll love this! I can read either, 1st person comes easier to my absorbtion but I will happily read anything Beverly writes and know I will be engrossed with the first 1/2 dozen pages.

I received an ARC of A Taste of Summer in return for an honest review, my reviews are my own and are 100% honest.

A Taste of Summer is the first book I have read by this author, I was lucky enough to be gifted a copy to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

I want to say it right off the bat I LOVE SUMMER!!! I actually have a total crush on him. Normally I like my men alpha, gritty and dark, Summer is none of those things. Instead he’s sexy and cheeky, sensitive and just bloody adorable!!

It’s rare that I like both the male and female leads in a book but I even really like Carrie Ann!!!

This couple have some serious chemistry and you could feel it even right from the first time they spoke. I love it when a couple actually feel like they have a history and Summer and Carrie Ann have a palpable connection.

I really enjoyed the writing style of this book, every word flowed and it never felt forced or stilted. The characters all felt familiar, like the author knew them inside out.

I have to say that Aspen totally stole the show for me, that is one seriously adorable character!!!

The sex scenes in this book are HOT!! They are full of passion and again that familiarity that accentuated the history these characters shared. The sex is not overly explicit or dirty but it’s enough to make you a bit hot under the collar.

My only critism of this book is the weird sub plot that happens at the party and then at the gym (sorry vague to avoid spoilers). I’m just not sure what its purpose was??? And then it was literally never spoken of again!!!!!

I really liked all of the periphery characters too and now realise that they are characters from another series and that this book is a spin off! I really want to read JC and Reeds book even just a glimpse at them give me the impression that their book is hot as hell!!!

This book is a great, sexy, easy read that I enjoyed.

A Taste of Summer gets 3.5 stars from me.

HASH(0x8bf856d8) out of 5 stars An amazing journey once again and the perfect addition to this incredible series!! 21 July 2015

Beverly Preston has done it again. Just when I think I can’t fall in love with her words more, she goes and gives us A Taste of Summer. Another gem in the Mathews Family Series, this one solidifies for me, just how talented this author is and how much I truly enjoy losing myself in these books.

This second chance love story is about Carrie Ann, Shayla’s best friend, and Ryan Summer, Hollywood Heartthrob. They’ve been apart for 10 years, but when they have a less than coincidental run-in at a health-club, their well hidden and buried feelings for each other come right back to the surface. You can tell just by their long-held gazes and deliberate responses that these two have a ton of unfinished business. Their nicknames for each other, Summer and Red, easily roll off their tongues and those 10 years simply seem to vanish.

As their worlds seem to collide more often than Carrie Ann can stand, with her successful working relationship with Tommy Clemmins in the Bare Your Soul campaign for her Have a Heart Foundation, and Summer being a friend and associate of Tommy’s, things are bound to get complicated. For Carrie Ann, her heart has never fully recovered and with a long-held secret, she’s not sure she’ll survive another round with the love of her life. Summer, however, has other ideas and he’s not losing his girl again.

An unplanned week together, ‘stranded’ at Summer’s house in the mountains, starts a journey for both Summer and Carrie Ann to try to find their way back to each other. This could either be the start of something wonderful or the final chapter to their intense and painful past. With the hope of a new beginning, get ready for an adventure filled with lust and want, pride and patience, desire and regret. It truly has it all!
What I loved, and what I continue to love with this author’s work is how she flawlessly combines sexy as hell scenes with heartwarming moments with friends and family. Her characters are loving, loyal people who not only know how to make a friend or family member smile but will stand up for that person no matter what. I am so in love with the Clemmins/Mathews family and the way they stick together. And each and every one of the couples, and now with the inclusion of Carrie Ann and Summer, loves deeply and with every fiber of their being. The sex is off the charts hot, yet it remains tasteful and touching.

This book is the perfect addition to this series and I now have yet another bbf in Ryan Summer. The man is as swoonworthy as they come and gives my Tommy a true run for his money. His devotion to Carrie Ann, his Red, made my heart swell and I was hopeful everything would turn out just right.

Give this one a read and find out for yourself if love truly does conquer all even after so much time apart. You’ll be happy you did.

A huge 5++ stars.

HASH(0x8bfe04a4) out of 5 stars The scars of broken trust... 21 July 2015
By Rosa Sharon - Published on Amazon.com

Beverly Preston's Mathews Family Series continues to get better and better with each book. One of the things that really, really entertained me was Carrie Anne's sass from the very beginning. I couldn't quit smiling as I read A Taste of Summer. Yes, there are some very serious and painful experiences that are covered as we explore the past and the beginning of Summer & Carrie Ann's love story. But interspersed throughout is witty banter and sweet moments that will touch your funny bone and your heart. The details unravel slowly and I was going crazy waiting to find out what the damn secret was that Carrie Ann never shared with Summer. I mean really, she can share her sexual fantasies with me so why not her secrets too? I was inside her head, but apparently only as much as she allowed because I knew enough to cause me to hold my breath and worry about how Summer would react to the news when she finally shared it, but I didn't know what it was either! I'm kinda offended actually. I thought we were closer than that, my feelings are hurt. At least she told me about Mr. Effing Perfect who was napping in her panty drawer. I got a good giggle-snort over that one. Fellow fans of the Mathews Family will be glad to know that Carrie Ann is Shayla's best friend. So, some of our favorite characters are involved, but it's not about them. You might also want to know that it didn't take 10 years for the hollywood hottie to be H-O-T, he was already that way. Yup, those two had a burning connection from the beginning, so unfortunately, they knew exactly what they were missing when nobody measured up to their flaming memories. I could feel the sexual tension as they nursed their hard feelings toward each other while at the same time they mentally undressed each other every time they were in the same room together. Can you imagine going to a fancy red carpet event and having to see that sexy man in a tux, knowing what was underneath, and knowing it no longer belonged to you? Damn, that would really suck, right? I was invested immediately and unable to put my kindle down till the last page. I was engrossed in the beautiful descriptions that had images floating through my head. Yes, I'm talking about the outdoor scenery...get your mind out of the gutter...but, I admit that put a few images in my head too. Can I just say, I wanted a 'taste of Summer' myself. *fanning self*

HASH(0x8bfe08b8) out of 5 stars Amazing second chance love story 21 July 2015
By Jessica from Maine Book Momma - Published on Amazon.com

I absolutely loved A Taste of Summer. This book created a slow aching burn in my chest the entire time I was reading it. I couldn't put it down and it is a top recommendation from me.

Summer and Carrie Ann fell madly in love while they were in college. They were each other's everything until their world crumbled when things didn't go exactly as they planned. Ten years have passed since then and Summer has decided it is well past the time to fix their relationship. He wants Carrie Ann back and is ruthless in his dedication to prove himself and his love.

Except Carrie Ann is holding on tightly to her pain and a few secrets. Even though no one has touched her the way Summer did all those years ago, she is stubborn in her refusal to forgive. It left me wondering and anticipating what would be the moment when Summer finally reached her. What would it take for her to forgive and more forward?!

I felt so much while reading their story that my heart hurt. I felt the anxiety and stress of their reunion as well as the passionate connection that could not be ignored between these two main characters. Their journey was emotional and painful at times but their moments of sweetness blew me away. I laughed out loud at the witty banter. I shed a tear when I learned the truth of their destruction. Basically, I fell in love with Carrie Ann and Summer.

Each book in this series is incredible. To experience the romance and attraction between Beverly's characters is something you do not want to miss out on. Their stories unfold well and I am always caught up in the drama as well as the love story. Definitely check out the Mathews Family series, especially A Taste of Summer.

HASH(0x8bfe0e34) out of 5 stars Another emotional, witty, and sexy read from Beverly Preston 21 July 2015
By The Fairest of All Book Reviews - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
A second chance to taste Summer?

Who wouldn't want that opportunity?

Carrie Ann Lowell wants to deny the feelings she still has for Ryan Summer because 10 years ago, they broke up amidst loss, interferences, and mistakes, forcing Carrie to barricade her heart so that she never has to feel that kind of pain again.

But what Carrie Ann doesn't count on all of these years later is movie star heartthrob, Ryan Summer, making it impossible for her to forget about what they had. Summer's tenacity to win back Carrie Ann's heart forces her to reconsider her choices, but the guilt and baggage from their previous relationship still exists, so Summer has his work cut out for him because even though he wants a second chance, he has his own scars from their college romance that need to be healed as well.

I've adored every single book in Beverly Preston's Matthews Family series, and A Taste of Summer a fantastic addition because not only do readers get to catch up with the Matthews clan, but they also get to understand more about Shayla's best friend Carrie Ann and the man who has always owned her heart.

Carrie Ann is a sassy, driven, and passionate woman who understands loss more than she would like to, and, in a way, she allows those feelings to consume her life, immersing herself in her work so that the pain can remain below the surface. I love her humor and the way she stands up for herself, even when she is in the wrong, which happens a time or two when she's with Summer. She holds a lot of guilt over her past, and there are hints along the way as to the reasons behind those overwhelming feelings. Carrie Ann's afraid to be honest, but when the truth is revealed, Beverly Preston does a tremendous job with the actions of all those involved.

Ryan Summer - readers are going to adore him and want their own taste. I loved his persistence in order to get what he wants - Carrie Ann. There wasn't a doubt in my mind that Ryan would do anything for a second chance with the love of his life. Even when Carrie Ann was being stubborn and resisting any attempts to discuss the past in order to move forward, Ryan showed time and again that he was all in, putting everything on the line to reclaim his Red.

A Taste of Summer is another emotional and sexy read from the wonderfully romantic mind of Beverly Preston. She brings the sweet, steam, and even a bit of silly into Summer and Carrie Ann's story, making it a must read.
