Two mismatched cops, one sharp-suited (Sylvester Stallone), the other a slob (Kurt Russell), are thrown together when they are framed by a big-shot gun-runner (Jack Palance). They are put in prison, duly escape, and then try to clear their names whilst trying to track down a massive haul of weapons before the weapons are shipped abroad.
There are buddy cops. And then there are Ray Tango and Gabe Cash (Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell) They're rival L.A. policemen who have one thing in common: each thinks he is the best. And each has the commendations, battle scars and ready supply of hilarious one-liners to prove it. Team them and they're like oil and water. But frame them for a crime and they're like a match and kerosene.Year: 1989Director: Andrei KonchalovskyStarring: Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, Jack Palance

ie. Cash: "When we get out of here we can grab coffee and a Danish."
Tango: (with reference to his former money grabbing psycho of a wife) "I hate Danish."
Tango & Cash has it all.
Will there ever be a special edition DVD with a Stallone/Russell commentary track?
Stallone and Russell make it watchable as they’re both clearly enjoying themselves in their roles (special mention to Kurt when he dresses up in women’s clothes!) and that’s about all the film is good for. Jack Palance is the villain whose scenes seem to have been filmed after the filming and then just dropped in afterwards. He does his best to be menacing, but because he never properly interacts with our heroes, he seems almost a bit redundant.
You may have heard the phrase ‘suspend your disbelief.’ Well, this is one film where, if you’re to get anything out of it at all, you have to do just that. Nothing really makes sense if you scrutinise it. The story bounces from one action-packed ridiculous scene to the next with no real explanation for what has gone on in order to get our protagonists to that stage. It almost feels like a computer game where you’re watching one stand-alone level after the next.
I enjoyed ‘Tango and Cash,’ but I’m quite aware that some people will find it too ridiculous to appreciate. When I watched it, my group were laughing at just how bizarre and totally stupid things were getting.Read more ›

Unjustly jailed among lowlifes they put behind bars, the two stages a prison breakout that's a breathless rush of weapons and wisecracks then roar after the shadowy crime lord [Jack Palance] who set them up. The movie stars stallone and kurt russell who are two cops from opposite sides of the city who are great at catching shipments of drugs, both are big headed and wise cracking and great at what they do and always want to outshine the other.
However a drug lord is annoyed at the pair of them and decides that if he gets them killed it will draw heat on him,but if he frames them for murder and drug dealings then they will lose respect and serve time in prison and maybe get killed by the criminals that tango and cash convicted.
Hence all of the drug lords plan comes to conviction as tango and cash head to jail and fight for their lives amidst some great jokes and puns and macho moments, the on screen chemistry between stallone and russell is good and all in all this is a feel good movie with blood and laughs.

typical 80's movie
over the top action with crap music
not bad if you got an hour and a half to burn
Full disclosure, this is great piece of 80s action fair, with beautifully cheesy turns by the two leads. Read morePublished 29 days ago by Brocks
