This stuff is STICKY. I used it in my fruit trees that were infested with ants -- it was like magic! Those lol suckers could not cross it, and the trees came back to life in no time.
Keep in mind that for this to work, you need to make sure the ants have no other way of getting on your trees -- one of my trees had a bush under it so ants used its leaves to avoid the sticky stuff and still get on the tree.
I started wrapping paper tape around the tree and the spreading this stuff with a disposable knife. It was messy and ants still got through (went under the tape) so now I just apply it directly on the trunk of the tree. I will never be able to get rid of it (even after over w year, the stuff is still there) so be careful. You do need to reapply once Ina while as leaves and dust get stuck on it -- I've seen ants using leaves as bridges to crossing this barrier.

I've used it also in peppers, blueberries, and many other plants. It does not work in bushier plants like strawberries, blackberries, and tomatoes though.

This stuff works exactly as advertised. I use it to keep aphids, ants, mealy bugs, and caterpillars from climbing up into my potted citrus trees and causing havoc. This is a much better solution than anything else that I have tried. I used duct tape as the backing, and it has been working great.

I spend a lot of time and money on my home garden every year. And every year I have a lot of my hard work get destroyed by cucumber beetles and white flies. I've tried a lot of different things over the years. This year, after finding a video about a do-it-yourself fix, I bought Tanglefoot, some disposable yellow cups and hoped for the best. After attaching the cups to wooden stakes, I slathered the cups with Tanglefoot, put the stakes into the garden beds and waited. The next day I couldn't believe it! The cups were covered with those pesky bugs! It's waterproof, doesn't dry up and does a wonderful job catching bugs. It's very sticky and this size doesn't come with a brush. Wish I had known about this years ago!!

Stuff works good. I brush about 4" wide around the trunk of my trees and first time I have not had ant/aphid problems in 25 years. I brush a little on some packing tape, put it on my windows and inside flying bug are down 90%. A little goes a long way.

I've had this product in my wishlist for a while now - ever since someone in a gardening group posted about applying it all over yellow solo cups (yellow being attractive to insects) and using them near plants for pest control. Loved the idea, but had been lazy about follow through. Enter fruit flies in my kitchen with all my picked tomatoes on the table, as well as little bugs flying around my seedlings under grow lights. Once you get bugs it's pretty difficult to eliminate them. I grew passively acceptant on our coexistence. But enough was enough.

Very impressed with the effectiveness of tanglefoot. i bought yellow cups from Party City and slabbed this sticky goo all over some cups. Careful of touching it on your hands...it's pretty difficult to get off and the residue remains after washing with soap and water. But wow! I have caught a lot of bugs. I will continue to use this. See photos (the bizarre color is due to using LED grow lights for seed starting / growing plants indoors...which I also highly recommend!)
