2.0 out of 5 stars Defective Freedom Leash 26 Oct. 2011

Initially, I must say that I love the concept. The swivel feature worked well, but we had a major problem with the mechanism that controls the locking and retraction functions. In a nutshell, when both lines extended the mechanism would seize up so that only one line would retract. The other locked in place with the line extended. The control buttons on the handle would become frozen, and jam in place. After a great deal of pushing, prodding, fiddling and jiggling, the buttons would free up and the line would retract, only to have the exact same thing happen moments later. We had a brief "Oh No" moment when a larger, aggressive dog approached ours and we were unable to bring the one on the defective lead back close to us.

We have miniature dachshunds, and this happened on the very first trip out of the house, so there was no question of having put undue stress on the device.

My wife complained that device itself is bulky, and heavier than she liked. I felt the size and weight were par for the course, though I must admit that I often hold two conventional retractable leashes in one hand, and this does weigh more than those do combined.

Still though, we like the concept and the swivel function well enough that we will probably grab another and give it one more try after my refund is processed. We were unable to simply exchange for another, since this is evidently not an option where Amazon fulfills but another entity is the actual seller. I'll post a follow up if we do get a second one and try again.

Update- 11/8/11

We did get a second one. The thumb control buttons still stick and jam somewhat, but it's not nearly so bad as the first one. If they address this issue, this will be a great product. As is, it's still two stars.

Update No. 2 - 3/22/12

Our second leash has now jammed up completely and is going in the garbage. Due to winter weather it was used fewer than a half dozen times since my last update. Stay away.

3.0 out of 5 stars small dog review 12 Oct. 2011

I have small dogs (10 pounds) and this product works ok. The detangling mechanism works best when they go in copletely different directions so that it gets a tug to pull the tangle free. When they walk next to each other and twist around each other the lines don't untwist without help. When the lines are tangled the retractability of the individual leashes isn't very good. The leashes are 10' long instead of the 16' I am used to having with my old retractable but that works for me. This leash is rated to handle 90 pounds on each leash. Maybe with more wieght the detangling would be better. The handle fits my hand pretty well (the old retractable was only big enough for three fingers) But my wife thinks it is big and bulky for her.
1.0 out of 5 stars Good concept--Poor Quality 29 Nov. 2016

I was so happy when this arrived and at first it was wonderful. Within 2 weeks, one of the sides didn't retract. They did send me another one, which was great customer service, but after 3 or so weeks the same thing happened to the new one. My pups are only 20 pounds each so it wasn't that they were being over used by huge dogs pulling on them. I ended up buying a less expensive model and it has been over a month and I am totally satisfied. They have a great concept, it is just poor quality.

2.0 out of 5 stars Easily Tangles and Poor Retraction 17 Dec. 2012

When we adopted our second (small) dog, we needed a leash for the times when one person had to walk them alone. I was so excited when I found this product online - it looked so cool! We loved the concept and design, but it did not live up to expectations from the beginning. The leashes constantly tangle - if you catch it quick enough, you could twist your wrist to right them. If you walk at a fast pace (or worse, run) it seems to tangle worse. I used it again this morning and had to stop and literally hang the leash upside down to "un-twirl" three separate times in 1-1/2 miles. The sides also take turns not retracting, which cause the dogs to get tied up in the extra leash, or for the person walking to trip. Also, the locking mechanism works on both sides simultaneously, which is horrible when one dog needs to get pulled back and the other is right next to you. I should also mention that our dogs are both under 20 lbs, so that should not be an issue. The weight of the handle might be an issue for some, but would be worth it if it worked as advertised.

I will continue to use it because I hate to waste money, but I would not recommend the product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dual Leash 12 Feb. 2012

I received the product the other day. The shipping box appeared to be mangled and crushed. Upon further inspection i concluded that the box was to small for the item ordered. After removing the product from the box i discovered that the leash packaging had been previously opened and had been cut apart. The packaging had been taped back together and all the extra pieces that had been cut away were stuffed into the remaining packaging materials. The Dual Leash appeared to have dings and dents all over it. Needless to say it will be returned. I do not know what transpired in this order but the product ordered has either been sent back by someone else and the shipping department never opened the returned item or some at the shipping department was very careless in their shipping methods.. The Dual Leash appears to be large in size. Whether it works as advertised i do not know as it will be returned. This is the second time this order will be returned because the first product received was not the correct item ordered. This company appears to have a lot a positive comments attributed to it,so i do not know was has happened. Buy with caution.
