There are many books about Judaism, starting with the Torah, the five books which form the canon of the Jewish religion: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deutoronomy. There are many more books of exegesis of Judaism, written by rabbis across the world. This edition of The Talmud presents a selection of the full text of that work, translated into English, and it provides an insight into the intricately argued details of the full work.

While a Christian I have always been interested in the Jewish writings as the world has much it can learn from people of the Jewish faith. Having long wanted to read some of the Talmud have found this book a wonderful introduction.
The sections are presented in a clear and readable way.
Highly recommended.

N. Solomon has produced a very good introduction to the Talmud. In it, there is enough on the textual reference to Jesus of Nazareth for the Christian historian to be satisfied with it. A full reading of the Talmud would take weeks, so Solomon has done a good job to provide some choice parts. I did find his anti-Christian sentiments very divisive but he does give a background reason to them, no matter how partisan they are. His broad understanding of the Talmud makes it easy for a novice to get to grips with this important Jewish work.

This is a classic text, I am not Jewish but bought it to get a better idea of Jewish thinking - after all Jesus was (is?) Jewish. As a Christian I find that an understanding of Judaism strengthens my faith and improves my understanding of God.
