I was immediately impressed with this collection of African folktales. King Samuel Benson has brought these ancient tales to life in an enjoyable way that every child of a certain age will learn from. In the tradition of Aesop, the author re-tells these stories eloquently in plain english. Children of all races will benefit from the moral at the end of each story, an African tradition which is similar to the Jamaican 'Anansi' stories my father used to tell when I was a child. A fascinating way to teach moral discipline, this book will be loved by parents and children alike. I'd love to see further editions of this book in the future.

If your kids are tired of tales about Snow White, Rapanzel, The Little Red Hen e.t.c and want new tales from different cultures, Tales By Twilight is just the right book for them. The books consist of three tales with folklore about how animals came to look the way they do or behave the way they do. It's a refreshing little book for kids.

Tales by Twilight by King Samuel Benson: A charming collection of African folktales that were handed down from Grandma.
Who wouldn't love them? With three wonderful tales to be told to children that have good moral endings, this is what the world needs more of.
This book has everything that children like to question, and here are some interesting answers. They will actually sit and listen and love these tales.
A new favorite story book for my grandbabies who are still talking about monkeys and lizards and hawks.

This is a wonderful book to have in any collection and I highly recommend everyone adding it to theirs.

You can't afford not to read these stories!

A short, charming collection of stories that will forever stick in my memory. How one of my young friends loved them! Thrilling tales, great morals! King Samuel Benson is a marvelous story-teller. I read these stories to my young friend during lunch, and he made me read them to him again at dinner. I can't wait for the second collection!

These short stories were all new to me, and were like a breath of fresh air. It was nice and a little amusing to hear the reasons why animals do what they do, almost childlike, but certainly charming. Recommended.

I was completely charmed by the three African folktales contained in this book. As a child, the tales told by his grandmother made an impression on King Samuel Benson. As an adult, he decided to share their wisdom. I echo the author's gratitude to his grandmother, Nene Benson Egwakhide, for telling him the stories that she was told by her elders. I believe the folktales, individually and as a group, will continue to impress children for years to come. The stories are short, but the morals will be long remembered. To learn the truth as to why the lizard nods its head, why hawks carry chicks, and why the tortoise has a patchwork shell, you'll need to read "Tales By Twilight." No spoilers here! These are stories that your children and grandchildren will love as much as you do.
