4.0 out of 5 stars and I like the phrases and style of it 3 Aug. 2016
By Jenna Whittaker - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Tales of Cynings starts slowly, and the narrative style is fairly explanatory instead of descriptive, but the dialogue and characters are realistic. The lack of description, and constant style of ‘this happened, then this happened’ could use some editing and fixing up, but altogether, it does not overshadow the other aspects of this novel.

The dialogue between the characters is very well written and realistic, and I like the phrases and style of it. This makes the interactions between them fascinating to read, and their actions and reactions are real and in fitting with their personalities.

Magic is woven into this story well, and compliments the characters, their struggles, and the overall plot, without acting as a deus ex machina.
All in all, this story is very well written and I quite enjoyed the plot and the characters! I recommend checking Tales of Cynings out.
This review was done as part of a review swap and was unbiased. I do not know this author personally at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expertly told folk tales! 8 Sept. 2016
By Mike Prince - Published on Amazon.com

This is a very solid and rewarding read - the stories weave around the land of Cynings, and was impressed by the clarity of the authors style and his approach to what felt like modern folk tales even though the setting itself is in a more pastoral time. I really enjoyed how it started with a deceptively simple story about a cat and grew from there, we are drawn into a world of shadow and light and consequence - this is a professional and accomplished piece. I expect to see a lot more from this writer. 5 stars.

This book is a collection of 3 (or 4) stories from a mythical land called Cynings. While the first two tales are entertaining, they are best read as a sort of extended prologue for "The Shoemakers" Parts I and II. Although the title and first two stories may lead one to believe that "the Shoemakers" is a clever retelling of the story of the cobbler and the elves in the context of Cynings,to reduce it to something even remotely so simple would do it a great injustice. This epic tale follows the separate yet intertwined adventures of a woman and her shoemaker parents as they flee and push back against corruption and seek justice in unexpected ways. Kobes has created a mystical land with deep history that can engage adults and youth alike while stirring up questions of morality, justice, fate, and power.
4.0 out of 5 stars I very much enjoyed this book 4 May 2016
By Bethany J. Powell - Published on Amazon.com

I very much enjoyed this book. It was filled with well written, imaginative stories that give their respects to more familiar fairy tales, while still keeping you engaged and locked in, wanting to know what happens next. Each "chapter" was a new story, and they collectively followed a lineage of rulers through several generations, each story peeking in on specific events at a different point in the timeline. This structure threw me off at first, because I got attached to characters that didn't reappear. However, I ended up just as invested in the characters in each subsequent chapter, so I can give this a whole hearted 4 star rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for anyone who enjoys fantasy 15 Feb. 2016
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

This book is the product of a sharp mind and an excellent imagination. The four stories in this collection are beautiful and gripping. The characters are well developed, and the plot kept me engaged all the way through. The writer draws from classic fantasy stories and embellishes them with his own unique and intriguing touch.
