My grandson is familiar with the hard copy but loved the kindle edition and found it just as enchanting. I was surprised at how well the illustrations and text was organised and used my laptop, which has an excellent screen, to read the story. I also find it a very practical way to have something available for last minute sleepovers.

Bought for a youngster for whom English is not her first language and as an aid to get her reading. She loved "Peter Rabbit" and will like this too although the story does not have quite the same appeal!

Its easy to fall into the trap about books which your own children read and enjoyed in thinking that the same reaction will be made by one's grandchildren. Unfortunately this particular grandchild was not enthralled by the book and perhaps, sadly it is now rather dated. This won't stop me trying it out on the other grandchildren who revel in Enid Blyton Books which I would have thought dated!

I am surprised noone has reviewed this little tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle! Well, I guess if you like any Beatrix Potter's book you like them all. Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle is as delectable a creation as any other in the world of Peter Rabbit. Personally, I find this one one of the less good story. The tale is not the heaviest on the cautionary side among Beatrix Potter's work but does feature a very courteous young girl and an equally well-mannered and unassuming hedgehog. The plot is very very slim with scantly any unfolding. That couples to the lack of the child-like escapade of tales such as "Peter Rabbit" and "Tom Kitten" makes it somewhat less engaging. The illustration is also somewhat lower in standard, and the fact that one of the two main characters is a little girl does not help as Beatrix Potter's art was always weaker when it comes to depicting human. Whilst the text does give delightful and very vivid and impressionistic descriptions of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle I think the character is let down simply by the fact that a hedgehog translates into a fully-gowned two-legged creature less well than a rabbit or a kitten (Peter Rabbit was not even decked in full human raiment - just a jacket and a pair of shoes). Some illustrations depict her really well but others - where Beatrix Potter has had to resort to distoring her anatomy - simply look quite awkward - a departure from the realistic way in which Beatrix Potter always draw the anatomy of her animal characters, a treatment I think which has given the books their distinct charm.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit was written in 1900 and has stood the test of time very well. Generations of children have loved the story and treasured the books of Beatrix Potter. It is up there among the greats of children's literature with Wind in the Willows, The Water Babies, Peter Pan, Treasure Island and many others.

In these days of computer games and electronic toys of one kind or another, books sadly are sometimes not as high on the list as they were a few years ago, perhaps that is why literacy in schools is not all that it could be. Personally as a child books were always my first love and Christmas would not have been the same without a Rupert annual.

Stories that involve animals as the main characters in books always seem to fascinate young children and Peter Rabbit has always been up there with the best. Next time you have to buy a present for a child, or even want to treat one of your younger grandchildren for no particular reason. Instead of looking for the latest DVD why not buy them a book. Peter Rabbit is a good one to start with. This particular set is expensive but is an investment that will be treasured and passed down the family.

Wonderful classic! Every little girl should read this book! And every adult too! I prefered having all of the books like this as seperate books, instead of buying one book with all of the novels in one go. I can imagine that it's that they're seperate that makes my daughter favour a few so much.

She can bring it anywhere she likes as it's so small. It fits perfectly in a large pocket and can be read when ever there a dry moment. It has always been mine and my daughter's favourite story. Beautifully written, stunning drawings and the type the text is written in is very fitting to this classic story.
