Fact, the WIFI router supplied by your ISP is engineered down to a cost and therefore the WIFI performance is compromised and by nature designed for an average sized house and gives at best average performance.
Fact, using WIFI extenders, or even costly MESH devices to cover dead spots is a compromised solution as these also use WIFI to connect back to the router. Powerline adapters are an option but in my experience prone to mains noise and interference.
Therefore the best solution is to use a WIFI access point installed where coverage is poor and hardwire this back to the ISP router; this TPLink AP is a very cost effective option and simple to install with basic DIY and network knowledge (or using Google to get the information required).
For those with the Virgin "super" hub which has particularly poor WIFI coverage adding these AP's will absolutely transform your WIFI experience and coverage, after installing two of these we now have 100% of our broadband speed available in 100% our sizeable 5 bed bungalow (and a good portion of the garden too).
For Virgin users, install the AP's, connect them via a good quality Ethernet cable to your hubs wired ports, set them to the same SSID, password and security method as your Superhub WIFI settings and then simply turn off the WIFI (both 2.4 and 5G radios) in the superhub settings, DO NOT switch the superb to modem mode as you loose all the router and DHCP functionality and therefore access to the internet!
PS the access point comes with a mains adaptor so you don't have to use a POE switch but it looks much neater to have just the one cable going the access point so it's worth the small extra cost IMO.
It's relatively easy to set up, I am running Linux so I couldn't take advantage of the controller software but I only have one device and the web interface is as others have described, really easy to use.
Mine came with the PoE adaptor and no option for a power supply which was no problem. The range is reasonable, no better than the Netgear router which I was using as a wireless access point but so far it is leaps and bounds better, as I have not had to reset it or had any issues with failing to connect to the internet.
I did a lot of research before buying this and I was a little concerned about the low price, but I'm so glad I got it as it worked straight out of the box and has not missed a beat since installation. All in all a great bit of kit at a great price.
Just be aware that setting up this device may be daunting if you don't have a good grasp of wi-fi set-up. I am not an IT person but I am fairly computer savvy.
