Hello friends....
So i decided to pull the trigger on this and ordered it with free one day delivery etc etc......
A mildly obese delivery driver arrived at my front door at 2:08pm and foisted it through the letter box in its original
packaging; sans-bubble rap to a satifying slaping noise as it landed on the vinyl floor, indicating to him his work was done here.....
over to moir!
Philips screw driver in hand, I opened my pc side to reveal lots of dust on an old 54Mbps PCI (non express) card which was 4 years old and....regretably wasnt Windows 7 64bit compatable with any drivers i could find. I must confess i forgot the old card in question was only 54Mbits and so the was a immediate difference in size and performance between the old and new cards on instalation.
I simply popped the old card into the anti static bag for storage whilst defly taking a healthy swig of Carlsburg special brew and using my spare hand to nestle the new PCI (also non express) card into the same slot. (that was a joke, it was earl grey, twinnings!)
I was worried about the Win 7 64bit compatability issues that so many fellows have had but fortunatly all
is well and working with this new TP-Link TL-WN951N Advanced (old school PCI slot) (so your sure which one i bought). I thought...
well why not order the advanced one with the three antennas, i can show the girls to impress them after all!.
My old card had just a single antenna and so i quickly guessed i might be in for a wonderful supprise.
So how is it?.... Well considering i had little to no wireless connectivity before, except on CAT5, ethernet etc,
it is fantastic!!. Going from 54Mbits to 300Mbits is like cooking on gas as the old saying goes.
My router at my shared property doesnt have the spec for the card to really stretch its legs etc, thus one can only
connect at 130Mbits in my case......but even so thats still over twice as fast after the upgrade with plently in the tank for a
future router upgrade. So far very little in the way of disapointment then!,
I brought this for work relating to trading, equities etc and so latency and speed were of some minor concern unless
i were to do business over the phone at an additional expense. For 20 english sterling this worry is no more :)
So lets see where im at 1-3 months down the line, update to follow of coarse.
Extra Notes....at time of purchase.
I installed the drivers first from the mini CD,.....you know those 150-300 meg little CDs, one comes in the box.
No problems with 64bit Win 7 Ultimate, flawless. Then i went on the TP-Link website and downloaded the latest driver which had Win 8 compatability..etc. No discernable difference in speed BUT more bars of signal strength,...victory for man!. I was aware of pushing my luck for more of a good thing!!!!.
So i went to roll the drivers back to "compare ze market", found i couldnt, greyed out box etc, uninstalled the device and reinstalled the OEM CD drivers or what have you. The golden 4/5 bars remained when the install was finalised...winning.
So there you go, good value, it works, its fast, it (Doesnt have) "5 GHZ fancy pants stuff" but even if your router is at minimum
a hot turd, which only does what its supposed to, then i think your going to have a grand time streaming star trek from some forbidden site or shamelessly downloading torrents of midgets with tall buxom blonde ladys.
(THIS REVIEW CONTAINS LANGUAGE WHICH IS AGAINST AMAZONS REVIEWS POLICY AND WILL BE MODERATED),,,,haha just kidding thats rubbish
i made up.
Good luck if you buy this.
Regards
Sir Hedgealot
