TP-Link's TL-WDR3600 is a performance-optimised simultaneous dual band wireless router combining the blazing fast speeds of 300 Mbps using the crystal clear 5 GHz band and 300 Mbps using the traditional 2.4 GHz band. With simultaneous dual band, users have 600 Mbps of total bandwidth to power numerous bandwidth intensive applications at the same time around a large home or office setting. With five Gigabit ports and 800 Mbps+ hardware NAT, your wired devices will have lightning-fast, lag-free connections. In addition, two USB 2.0 ports are capable of sharing flash storage, printers, ftp servers and media players, so users can power a robust home media network.

The TL-WDR3600 broadcasts and receives both 2.4 and 5 GHz connections simultaneously at 300 Mbps per band. Like two wireless routers in one, this allows users to run day-to-day applications - such as e-mail and web browsing - over the 2.4 GHz band, while using bandwidth intensive or latency sensitive applications - such as streaming HD video or playing online games - over the clearer 5 GHz band. Both bands at the same time, both at 300 Mbps.

The TL-WDR3600 is able to support a robust and extremely fast wired network, ideal for latency-sensitive applications such as HD media and online gaming. With a built-in Gigabit Ethernet switch and a Hardware NAT function, the wireless router provides powerful data processing capabilities. It's NAT WAN to LAN throughput can achieve up to 800 Mbps+, allowing users to unleash the full potential of their networks.

The TL-WDR3600 supports IP QoS (Quality of Service), allowing optimum utilisation of bandwidth and offering bandwidth control over congestion, preventing bandwidth abuse. This allows users of a small network to receive committed and specific bandwidth, preventing non-critical applications from degrading network performance.

The TL-WDR3600 features Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) that allows users to almost instantly setup their security simply by pressing the "WPS" button, automatically establishing a WPA2 secure connection. Not only is this faster than normal security setups, but more convenient in that you don't need to remember a password. The device also comes with a CD featuring an Easy Setup Assistant that leads users through the setup process step-by-step, and even helps with wireless network settings and security configurations. With setup being this easy, even novice users can have their networks up and running in mere minutes.

This advanced easy to set-up router comes with the functionality to broadcast and receive both 2.4GHz and 5GHz connections simultaneously at 300mbps. Simultaneous dual band allowed us to have 600mbps of total bandwidth to power numerous bandwidth intensive applications in our very large house. Now simple tasks such as e-mail or web browsing can be handled by the 2.4GHz and more bandwidth sensitive tasks such as online gaming or HD video streaming can be processed over the 5GHz band at 300mbps, at the same time giving us smooth undisturbed access to internet. This TP-LINK Router has external antennas this really gave us greater coverage over the Virgin Super Hub which has internet antennas allowing us to use wireless internet all around our house.
The five Gigabit (1000mbps) ports on the router are being utilised by our multimedia devices such as my Smart TV, Virgin TiVo Box, PS3, BluRay & NAS Hard Drive giving the devices again giving us smooth undisturbed access to the internet and our internal network. In addition, the 2 USB 2.0 ports allowed us to share our non-wireless printer (saved us money on buying a new wireless printer) on the same network and also another hard drive which we use it as a family back up (saved us more money on buying a new NAS Hard Drive).
This amazing TP-LINK Router has totally replaced our Virgin Media Super Hub Router which was unable to provide Simultaneous dual band wireless meaning we always struggled to get the most out of our 30mbps internet connection. This affordable (cheaper than equivalent brands), well built, smart looking TP-LINK router which is neat enough to blend in well with the other technology items around has totally changed our lifestyle for the good. We couldn't have asked for more for the money we paid for this router! I just hope that Internet Service Providers start to supply TP-LINK Dual Band Routers with their Super-Fast Connections.

A solid router without bells and whistles

First of all, if you're buying this router before the end of 2012, you can claim a free dual band wifi adapter when submitting a copy of your amazon invoice. See the tp-link website for details.

So this router. It has a lot of features for a rather keen price. That's why I bought it. I haven't used the USB media/print server, so I won't mention it any further. This review is based solely on someone who lives in a household with a lot of wired and wireless gadgets...

First of all, the web interface is basic - very basic. Reminded me of my first router I obtained in the early 00's! Previously I was a user of the Tomato firmware on a buffalo router, and then DD-WRT on a D-Link router, and the TP-Link interface is unbelievably inferior. If you make any changes to the WLAN or DHCP you'll need to reboot the router. If you're used to being able to click on a client and assigning a static IP address for it in DHCP, forget it - you'll have to get used to copying and pasting those MAC addresses from one webpage to another. The client traffic stats are text based and pretty hard to decipher - if you're used to real-time graphs of traffic in your LAN and on the WAN, you'll be thoroughly disappointed.

The hardware itself is pretty huge - approx 2 times the width and depth of my previous d-link DIR-615 router. I think it looks pretty good despite the size. It has a real on-off switch and a switch to disable/enable the WLAN, which some people may find useful.

Routing performance seems fantastic, at least I can saturate the upload/download on the WAN (30mbps Virginmedia) and push about big files between clients on the LAN and the rest of the clients on the network seem snappy.

Wireless performance is also good. Both 2.4GHz and 5GHz clients can connect from all over our house with no issues. My previous two routers were definitely more problematic.

The replacement DD-WRT firmware is also available for this router (though installing it may void warranty, so please don't upgrade without doing your own research). I will definitely upgrade after waiting a few months to make sure the hardware is solid, as the DD-WRT interface and feature set offers so much more than TP-Link supply by default.

Overall, a good solid router let down by a poor user interface - which can be overcome by installing an alternative firmware if you are comfortable doing so. I would give this 3.5 stars, but I'm forced to round up to 4.

Don't know what to say... When it works, it works very well. I got one from Amazon, but it started to behave funny. 5GHz line was working fine, but 2.4GHz one would just die and resetting or anything else could not restore it for hours. Since it happened more than a month after I got it, I could not return it, so I went to TP-LINK support and they were very helpful. I got it replaced (with only expense for having to ship it to them), and the new one worked fine for a few days, but 2.4GHz started to behave badly again. Not as bad as it did before, i.e. resetting fixes the problem, but still, with only 2-3 devices on the network, I would have to reset it once a day in average. It could be that there is some other problem where I live, that it chooses the wrong channel or something, I am not that familiar with all the problems that could arise, but I was hoping for smooth connection and it is not as good as that.

The Best Value and Feature Set

We recently upgraded to a 120MBits/sec internet package so the home network required upgrading to gigabit speed to match. Our network requires both wired and wireless capability so I had to confirm that the 4 LAN ports are all gigabit, this one is. It couldn't be easier to install. Just access the internal URL and follow the easy step by step guide. I used the same encryption key, encryption protocol and subnet IPs as the old router so I was pleasantly surprised that the new router scanned for devices on the network and automatically connected them ! Guest internet is a nice bonus as is the concurrent 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz connectivity. I use 2.4 for guest and 5 for the home network, 802.11n only for 5Ghz for greatest security.

Built-in print server (connect the printer directly to the routers USB port) requires installation of a small app on every computer connected to the router but it works well once up and running. There is a 2nd USB port that can be used for a network hard drive.

If ease of installation and features at a great price are what you're looking for, you can't go wrong with the WDR3600.

Buenas prestaciones para el precio que tiene. No quería gastar demasiado en un router neutro, pero necesitaba una velocidad de transmisión de datos decente. Éste cumple perfectamente, gracias a sus tomas gigabit ethernet y su wifi a 600mbps.
El rango del wifi es mejor que el de mi anterior router, un TL-3420 v2 de TP-Link también. Repito con TP-Link, aunque la interfaz web no me gusta nada (he de confesar que pocas me dan las opciones que necesito), por lo que lo primero que he hecho según lo he tenido en mis manos, ha sido meterle OpenWRT con LuCi. Eso es otro mundo.

This Router is built very well and has amazing throughput on wired connections right out of the box, although it is much larger than most current Routers. I replaced an Asus RTN56U with this after having to deal with the Asus customer support (HORRIBLE) and then trying a few other brands. I was very skeptical about the good reviews I was seeing for this Router, but took a chance anyway. I love the Router, but it should be known that it is not perfect out of the box. The factory firmware has major issues with the wireless bands. Right out of the box this Router would drop the 2.4GHz Wireless at random intervals ranging anywhere from every ten minutes to every day or so. Also, the range was pitiful on both bands. After sending one back for these issues only to have another with the exact same problems and then reading multiple other reviews regarding the same issues, I opted to look towards DD-WRT for a solution. I was not disappointed at all. The DD-WRT solution was simple to implement, as is usually the case, and corrected the wireless issues immediately. Since I installed DD-WRT, this Router has far exceeded my expectations. The throughput on wired and wireless is excellent and the device never gets even remotely hot, unlike nearly every other Router I have tried over the past few months. While having to implement DD-WRT is not what I would call a perfect solution for everyone, if you are willing to put forth the effort to get it installed and setup, you will be very pleased with the end result. Excellent hardware, TP-Link!

VISTA BEWARE!

First of all, let me say that the router is pretty good for the average 1300sqft home if you put it in a well centralized location. I don't usually like to write reviews but this one got me, not for the obvious reasons. The router works great, has many user friendly settings, it’s a dual band and even has the guest network. Let me advise you, and I strong recommend it, use the CD that comes with the router to set it up. It's a breeze. What I wanted to warn you though, beware if you have any computers running Vista, in my case 32Bit. I had a Linksys E1000 that did the job before, I have 3 laptops, 2 iPads, 2 kindles and three iPods, not all running at the same time of course, Plus I have Netgear switch feeding two 3 DVRs, PlayStation, a surround sound, smartv, a DVD player and a roku. I know I have a lot of stuff, but I had to change my router ONLY because my wifi kept dropping. This router is nice looking and does the job so far. However, back to my vista laptop. My son, who is a Minecraft fanatic, loves his laptop so he can play. After I connected the new router, everything worked flawlessly, EXCEPT the laptop that has vista, which is my son's. I could connect to the router no problem, but there was no internet access at all, only unidentifiable network. The ONLY resolution I could find was that the laptop could only connect to WEP encryption, and not the WPA which the N capability works on, not the WEP. So it as a major bummer to accept this because now I had to change this one setting so all my other devices connects to accommodate this one laptop. I did some research and found two articles. My current wireless adapter Atheros 5007 was running a driver version of 7.x.something. I came across this one article that this one guy shared the SAME ISSUE and all he did was update his driver. Let me advise you that you won’t be able to find the updated driver by finding the network device in the device manager and updating the driver. You must download it. The update driver feature will say that the driver is up to date. I found a link, which I hope I can post, that took me to a HP website (my laptop is a HP) to download the driver and it had the hp assistant. Once it downloaded, and I installed it, my network connection restarted and BAMMMMM! My new network driver version is 9.2.0.427. I was able to connect to the wireless network using WPA rather than WEP, shortly after I changed the security type from another computer. Overall, that little hiccup set me back, but I'm sure I'll be more than happy with my new router. Better range, and better transfer speeds. Hope this helps!!

The physical hookup was easy but then the problem started

This arrived in a rather large box and I was surprised to find that the only thing inside was this router.
I read the directions and started to hook it up at 3:00 PM. The physical hookup was easy but then the problem started. I could not get it to work properly even when hooked directly by ethernet cable.
I then called the Support number and was greeted by a pleasant lady who spoke Chinese much better than she spoke English. Both frustrated by a language barrier, she emailed me the link to an updated firmware. The one supplied with the router was out of date. When I finally got to download the firmware upgrade I installed it on the router. Then, and only then, was I able to get the router working. It was now 10:30 PM. A total of 7 1/2 hours before I got it working!
Since the installation the router has been working well. As well as the Cisco router it replaced. For the price, and without the installation problems, it isn't a bad router.
