Simple alternative to wifi

These were very simple to set up and they work right out of the box: I connected one to the desktop and the other to internet router.

Mine came with euro plugs. Sadly, adding adapters degrades the connection speed.

Technical stuff:
1. The actual speed I got was around 300Mbps according to the utility included. Reducing the number of splitters and adapters is crucial here.

2. Effectively, these perform like 100Mbps ethernet. (File transfers max out at 12MB/s, while the same hardware without the powerline connection did around 50MB/s.)

3. Latency is 2ms which is great.

This item is for the continental market as it is made for 2 pin sockets and cannot work unless it is plugged into a wall socket so if you do not have a sound knowledge of electricity you risk a few small preblems.

Unpackaged the items, plugged them in, pushed the buttons, and connected the cables. Up and running in 5 minutes, and that includes fitting the extra one bought for the Apple TV!! BTW, I'd read somewhere that they don't work in 4 way gang extensions, but all of mine are connected this way. Forget the wireless!!

One issue though - did not come with a UK/Ireland 3 pin plug - had a 2 pin euro/shaver plug. But aside from that the speed is great. I have cable modem plugged in to unit in living room and pc plugged into unit in the back room. First time I connected them I plugged them into an extension socket and got a significantly slower connection speed than when attached straight into the wall socket. I took the advice of another reviewer and bought CAT6 internet patch cables. The speed is so much faster than my wifi network (I appear to have my full 50meg internet connection available through the units - great performance at a really good price.

I bought this product because I wanted to transfer my router from one side of the house to the other. I subscribed to Virgin 100mb internet delivery and have proved that virgin is within 10%. This is acceptable to me. However, in using the TP- Link, performance dropped to 28mb which is not acceptable. Currently I have moved my operation back to the original position and am playing with wireless once more.

Have not had any problems past 6 month since got these.
