Since writing the above, and before using it for its full intent, (streaming media from home server via plex and online gaming) I had not noticed but periodically (for me at least once an hour) this device drops its internet connection meaning a stable connection can NEVER be relied upon. This is a known fault in this product and no firmware update will fix
since purchasing in October 2015, date now being March 2016 the device has failed completely.
These have been brilliant. I set them all up in one go on a powerstrip near the router, cloning the wifi settings etc. Then moved them to the target rooms in the house, plugged them in to replace the older units and connected up my client devices.
It's been perfect ever since. I had no problems and I've pretty much forgotten about them since. Except to think about adding another to the kitchen to extend the poor wifi coverage there...
I have 40Mbs internet to my house but could only connect at 1 and 2Mbs at best due to slow connections to my home network.
I hooked the main unit to my SKY router box with the included LAN cable and it copied the WIFI settings onto its own network.
(following the instructions carefully......press the button for 5 seconds, wow rocket surgery!!!)
I then plugged the remote unit in my outside office (20M away and going through 2 more consumer units) and paired this unit to the main unit (...press the button for 5 seconds.......Hold on I'm not Steven Hawkins here!!...) and got FULL WIFI AND LAN connection speeds. I also have better interconnection speeds between my gadgets (Laptop, Tablet, WIFI printer, Smart TV, Mobile etc...)
The only downside was the instructions didn't show the correct location for one of the "PAIR" buttons so it took all of my Sherlock Holmes like detective skills to find the button with the same picture on it. (Lemonentry my dear Whatsit!!)
I have been battling with a over the air WIFI booster for 12 months and I am now kicking myself that I didn't just buy one of these, and the bonus is I can now just buy the remote box's and plug them in anywhere on my electrical system. (preferably not on extension leads, but it does still work)
All I need now is SKY to offer multi-room over network and I'd be as happy as a pig in muck (clean version)
The testament to this is i am composing this review on my laptop over WIFI whilst my PC is working on the LAN, my phone is doing its usual 50 updates over WIFI and the kids are watching catch-up TV!!
Now if they could only invent something to do the Ironing via T'INTERNET the whole family would be happy!!
So I got these two, using the pass through option as the office is light on power points. They're dead simple to use and setup - I paired them with the button press on the same ring main, and then moved the WiFi repeater to the area it was meant to be. Connection was maintained perfectly even though they're on different rings. I setup the WiFi on the repeater using the supplied utility on the CD and hey presto, instant full signal strength for the remote corner downstairs.
