Product Description
What This Product Does
Wireless N PCI Adapter TL-WN851ND allows you to connect a desktop computer to a wireless network and access high-speed Internet connection. Comply with IEEE 802.11n, they provide wireless speed up to 300 Mbps, which is beneficial for the online gaming or even HD video streaming.
Highlights:
Wireless N speed up to 300 Mbps makes it ideal for video streaming, online gaming and Internet calls
MIMO technology with stronger signal penetration strength, wider wireless coverage, providing better performance and stability
Easily setup a highly secured wireless link with QSS (Quick Security Setup)
Includes a low profile bracket
Wireless N - Speed & Range
MIMO (multiple input, multiple output antennas) technology, it shows more excellent abilities of mitigating data loss over long distances and through obstacles in a small office or a large apartment, even in a steel-and-concrete building. Above all, you could easily pick up the wireless network during long-distance connection where legacy 11 g products may not.
CCA Technology - Stable Wireless Signals
Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) automatically avoids channel conflicts using its clear channel selection feature and fully realises the advantages of channel binding, greatly enhanced the wireless performance.
WPA / WPA2 Encryptions - Advanced Security
As for the security of WI-FI connection, WEP encryption has been no longer the strongest and safest guards for outside intrusions. TL-WN851ND provides WPA/WPA2 encryptions that are created by the WI-FI Alliance industry group, promoting interpretabilities and security for WLAN, which could effectively and efficiently protect the wireless network.
Quick Security Setup
Compatible with WI-FI Protected Setup (WPS), TL-WN851ND features Quick Security Setup (QSS) function, which is ideal for creating a WPA encrypted connection to prevent outside intrusion, and meanwhile maximise the management resources. Not only is this faster than normal security setups but more convenient in that you don't need to remember a password.
Bundled CD for Easy Operation
TL-WN851ND comes with a CD with utility that helps you complete the software installation and wireless network settings, including security configurations and wireless connection, which is convenient for users, even for novice users.

first off, the drivers on the driver disk do not work. Tried both on W7 and W10.
I then got the drivers from the official website and they managed to install, but then stopped working with a corrupted driver.
I did a driver sweep and re-installed, and it worked for a couple days, and then the whole rig wouldn't boot with this in it.
really needing internet, i did a re-install, and dropped this ting in first thing, with the official driver from the vendor website (imagine getting stuff from the itnernet WITHOUT internet - oh that was fun), only to have a catastrophic system crash not 24h after that.
Please know that THE SAME SYSTEM (with a brand enw W10 install, but otherwise the same hardware - same mobo, same RAM, same SSDs is still happily running now that i have a different brand, same price wifi card also here form Amazon. so ...
The machine then completely locks up, even the mouse.
If you disable the wifi, the machine will stay running long enough to install a working driver.
Had to manually 'force' an install of the driver from TPLink site for win8 64bit.
This was no easy task.
But, I am expecting a windows update to decide it has a 'better' driver, at some point in the future, and break my machine again.
ps Under linux (ubuntu Mate) it just works perfectly out-of-the-box.
Getting very hard to find any cheap PCI cards that have working drivers under windows 10.
I bought this particular TP-link NIC card as I specifically wanted to use one of the available PCI slots on my motherboard as my only other PCI-E slot was taken by another expansion card (USB 3.0 card). It was a breeze to fit. Initially was not picked by the BIOS and the PC failed to POST. However probably my own fault as I tried to boot it without doing a CMOS battery reset and clearing the RTC Ram. After I did those things, the PC booted fine. I disabled the on-board LAN adapter via the BIOS and when Windows 7 started the TP-Link card was already recognised and installed in device manager, I did not need to use the included drivers from the mini-CD.
I am now getting reliable smooth 1Gb transfer speeds my NAS and PC and general internet works as good as ever without constantly being disconnected. So this card is highly recommended.
All in all a great fix to my problem for £7 and has breathed new life into my aging PC.
