Product Description

Style Name:Gigabit with 4 Port PoE

Product Description

What This Product Does

8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch with 4-Port PoE provides the seamless network connection. It integrates 1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet and 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet network capabilities

How This Product Works

4 of the 8 Auto-Negotiation RJ45 ports (port-1 to port-4) of the switch support Power over Ethernet (PoE) function. These PoE ports can automatically detect and supply power with those IEEE 802.3af compliant Powered Devices (PDs). In this situation, the electrical power is transmitted along with data in one single cable allowing you to expand your network where there are no power lines or outlets, where you wish to fix devices such as APs, IP Cameras or IP Phones, etc.

Overload Arrangement

TL-SG1008P has the priority function which will help protect the system when the system power is overloaded. If all PoE PDs power consumption is >= 53W, a priority will be arranged among the PoE ports, then the system will cut off the power of the lowest-priority port.

Easy To Use

TL-SG1008P is easy to install and use. It requires no configuration and installation. With desktop design, outstanding performance and quality, the TP-LINK TL-SG1008P 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch with 4-Port PoE is a great selection for expanding your home or office network.

An excellent little PoE switch - I honestly can't fault it!

For the price I paid, I was expecting a flimsy plastic thing to arrive, but was delighted to receive a solidly-built, metal unit. It feels very well-made.

I'm using it in conjunction with a TP-Link PoE Splitter unit to power a wireless router, and it seems to have no trouble powering this device. However, the manual does recommend that PoE devices should be rated at 10W or less, which may explain why it is unable to power some network video cameras.

One very nice feature of this unit is that all the connectors are at the back, but all the indicator lights are on the front. This means it's possible to keep all the messy wiring hidden around the back, but still be able to view the indicator lights to see what's going on from the front.

If I was forced to make a criticism, it would be that the actual indicator LEDs are mounted some distance behind the front panel. If you look at the unit off-centre, it's not always clear which lights are actually illuminated because they shine through the wrong holes in the front panel. You have to look directly at the front of the unit to see the lights clearly. But that is being very picky indeed!

I also really like the shape of this unit. I prefer oblong boxes to the bizarrely-shaped things that seem to be fashionable at the moment. This looks like a serious bit of network equipment - not a kid's toy.

In summary, this is a very good value, well-built, attractively-styled unit. Why spend any more?

Bought this to power an IP camera, and it has worked perfectly so far. Literally - plug one LAN cable from this unit to your router, and another cable (from one of the 4 POE ports) to your camera, switch it on, and that's it. It starts working immediately with no setup required, and for me at least, hasnt dropped a connection at all after extensive testing for a week or so.

I am hoping that it will happily power more cameras should I get any more. Recommended.

UPDATE 5th November 2013

Has been on virtually continuously since purchase and still no issues. Have not connected multiple cameras to it yet, but has powered a different camera happily. Never drops connection.

This switch functions as expected and comes in a proper metal chassis, not a cheap plastic one that slides around.

Having said that, as prices for managed switches have reduced, it's not a great deal cheaper than many of the 'smart managed' switches now available on the market, so it may well be worth spending the extra few pounds on something with VLAN capabilities.

The PoE power budget is advertised as 53W across all 4 ports, so whilst it's fine for things like phones and wireless access points, it might not be sufficient for pan/tilt IP CCTV cameras - check with your camera manufacturer.

Whilst the unit is well constructed I had too many problems whilst integrating it into my network plug and play it was not.
TP-Link has always been one of those trusted manufacturers (D-Link, Netgear, Linksys etc) for SOHO network equipment, therefore substituting this switch for an aging Linksys switch should have resulted in status quo and then allowed for modifying network settings through the browser based management interface. Not so !
Firstly the management interface is set to 192.168.0.1, the same ip address as my router, no problem disconnect my router go into the management interface change the ip address and save. Reconnect my router on with the configuration, nope ! My network connected to the switch cannot now see my router, in fact nothing connected to the switch can connect to the internet. OK, sanity check, take out the switch replace with Linksys switch - all fine. Replace Linksys with TP-Link, TP-Link has now lost the configuration changes I made previously and I have to start again. After much swapping and changing and getting nowhere I decide that the switch must be defective, and have returned to Amazon. This has seriously dented my confidence in TP-Link

Style Name: Gigabit with 4 Port PoE Easy Smart Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
When you have a home network the need for networks switches seems to grow, especially gigabit switches if you are streaming video and hi-res music around the house.
This 8 port unit from TP-Link ticks all the boxes and has the advantage of containing 4 PoE ethernet ports. These will supply power, up to 15.5 watts per port with a maximum power output of 55 watts, over the ethernet cabling to remote devices such as IP security cameras IP phones etc. where finding a mains supply may be difficult. Reflecting this power output the power supply is suitably beefy, similar to the in-line 'brick' commonly found in laptop computers. The device itself is impressively constructed in an all metal housing.
As with all these devices it is incredibly simple to work with them, you just plug them in and let them go. This unit is slightly more sophisticated, to be able to configure and PoE devices you may be using a utility software CD is supplied or you can simply address the switch directly via your browser.
An excellent little device which I have no doubt will not be sitting on my man-cave shelf for long.
