Product Description

TP-Link AV500 Powerline Adapter with AC Pass Through

What This Product Does

The TL-PA451 turns your powerline into a high-speed network with no need for additional wires or drilling. Set-up is easy with no configuration required -- simply plug the adapter into the power socket to establish networking infrastructure in a flash. The integrated power socket also helps make sure no power outlet is wasted. With speeds of up to 500Mbps and 300-meters over the household electric wires, the TL-PA451 is a great choice for an easy-to-build, multimedia entertainment network.

Up to 500Mbps, 300-Meters

With advanced HomePlug AV technology, the TL-PA451 can provide stable high-speed data transmission rates of up to 500Mbps over a household electric circuit for up to 300-meters. The TL-PA451 is an ideal solution to connect all network compatible devices in your home -- from computers and game consoles to set-top boxes for IPTV to printers and NAS hard drives.

Extra Power Socket for Additional Devices

With its integrated power socket, the TL-PA451 provides real convenience for your home network. The integrated power socket allows an additional device or power bar to be connected to the adapter as though it were a normal wall socket. This ensures that even with the TL-PA451 plugged in, no power outlet is going to waste.

Pair Button for Easy Network Security

Simply by pushing the Pair button on the adapters, you can set-up a hassle-free Powerline network within minutes, complete with 128-bit AES encryption for network security and data protection. Follow these steps:

  1. Plug the adapter into the power outlet
  2. Connect the device via the network cable to the adapter
  3. Press the encryption buttons -- and you're done
Mains Filter for Better Performance

With its integrated Mains Filter, the TL-PA451 can optimise powerline communication performance by suppressing noise interference generated by surrounding electronic equipment that can affect network performance. That means that users won't experience a sudden speed drop when a larger power-consuming device is plugged into the socket.

Reduce Power Consumption by Up to 85%

The TL-PA451, featuring a practical product design and environment-conscious Power-Saving Mode, will automatically switch from Working Mode to Power-Saving Mode to reduce energy consumption by up to 85%.

i must have for anyone in a house with lots of people. i live with 6 other people and i have the attic room, which means i am the furthest away from the wifi hub. Meaning i get awful to no internet through the wifi. This device has given me up to 50mb no mater who else is on the internet. As a side note you will need another of these devices to put the internet into the electric supply, i already had one so i only bought one. You can also have multiple around the house, except it will cut in half the internet that you can get through it. There are more expensive versions out there but this does the same job, easy to set up no problems at all so far. The type with the plug is very useful if you don't want to loose a plug socket.

Looked long and hard at the previous very helpful reviews. Bought the powerline pass through (TL-PA451 AV500) with 2 wireless adapters (TL-WPA4220 AV500 300M), result.. EXCELLENT. Signal improved all round the house, wife happy that signal doesn't keep dropping off when she is at the other end of the house (got to be worth it for that !), and it extends well into the garden because we can position the wireless adapter at the opposite end of the house to our main Virgin Hub. We have even been able to connect our Virgin Tivo boxes to our wireless network from the wireless adapters, with the ethernet cables (2metres) provided. Don't dally thinking over this set up, just buy it, it makes wireless life so much easier.

I've been using this with my PS3 connected to through an extension lead. Although this isn't recommended this has nevertheless been working perfectly since I have had it. The device is easy to set up and with a single press of the "Sync" button at the bottom of the device and pressing the same on my existing device (which is connected to the router). With the AV200 versions of the device I experienced drop-outs/network problems but this version works perfectly with online games running beautifully without any "lagging". The fact that it has pass-through socket, means that I don't waste any of my existing sockets.

A word of caution, if your wall plug sockets are positioned quite low, this device may be too large as the plug is at the top end and doesn't rotate in any way so you may have to use an extension lead [like I did]. Opt for the mini-version of the TP-link if that is the case.

These TP link Powerline adaptors seem excellent. I bought an initial set of 2 to connect my 'smart' tv. Though the TV was fairly close to the router, iPlayer etc were awful. Always buffering.

The Powerline connectors ensured a much more reliable connection.

This third unit was bought to connect my PC. One thing ISPs rarely tell us is that even the 'up to' speeds they advertise are for a wired connection direct to the router. WiFi can cut speeds by 80%!

These rather nifty Powerline connectors use your home power circuits to deliver a performance that is close to directly wired speeds.

So for my PC , WiFi lost about 70% of speed. Powerline lost less than 10%.

These units are very easy to set up. They are not quite plug and play as advertised. But pretty good. Plug them in close to the router with one unit connected to the router. Press the button on the bottom. They link up. Then move the 2nd or third router to where you want them.

TP link even make a 'Powerline wi fi extender'. So for those 'deadzones' - install a powerline wifi extender and all should be solved. I have not tested one of these.

We have these all over the house. Wifi is a great concept and brilliant when it works but has a tendency to drop out etc for no apparent reason when you least want it to. Now we have the whole house networked (teenagers online gaming upstairs, a home office working and movies streaming to the tv in the living room from the nas in the office) without having cables running all over the place.

The instructions say this won't work through an extension lead but I four that are just fine. I have only one extension lead that I have found they won't work in.

Would recommend this product to anyone who requires an additional Ethernet feed. I already had a tp link set up for a vu+ duo box, (my router is on the other end of my living room). I decided to buy a BT you view box, as I had heard good things about them, and I wanted to have the smart TV products too (BBC iPlayer, 4od, ITV player etc). This meant another tp link requirement,as you need to connect the Ethernet to the BT box.
I didn't have a separe 240v wall socket, as the double socket I had next to TV had my tp link in one outlet, and my extension multi socket for my TV/DVD/vu+ duo/hard drive etc. all connected to that.
The only way round it was to try this pass thru tp link, which plugged into the outlet next to my original tp link. I then plugged my multi socket into the pass thru tp link and connected the Ethernet to my new BT you view box.
Now, according to the instructions that came with the pass thru tp link,it sometimes connects automatically to a previously set up system, unfortunately, mine didn't so I had to set it up manually and, following the instructions, it worked in seconds.......I am 59 and not all that technically minded, so I guess if I can do it, the majority of people who buy this will also have no trouble in getting it up and running
