Best piece of kit in ages

My router is downstairs underneath the miles of cables. Connected to it by ethernet is my xBox and Sony TV, and wireless my computer upstairs. This was great but caused interference with the video sender transmitting to the main bedroom. The only way to stop the interference was to switch off the wireless feature, but that meant that I could not connect to the internet upstairs. Moving the router meant that the TV could not be connected and the interference was still there thanks to the wireless xBox transmitter. The solution was to use one of these units.

I plugged the one in downstairs and the ethernet cable that comes with it to the router. The other I plugged upstairs and into the computer. Press the pair button on one for 8 seconds until it flashes, then on the other unit for the same and they will pair up. After that, instant connection to the net with no interference when the wireless was switched off.

It was a pain with plugging it into their own sockets, so thought I would give it a go with an extension lead. The computer extension leas is a surge protector and the one downstairs a standard one. This is not advised apparently. Anyhow, tried it to see what happened and it works. So for me, extension leads still enable a network connection.

When you power the computer down, as there is no activity, the units go into sleep mode, a great feature. When switching on the TV, the connection to the internet is almost instant. Fantastic little units at a great price. Highly recommended.

I have four of these in my house on three different floors and they work fine. I had previously used a pair of 85Mbs Homeplug devices to connect my Slingbox to the home network and internet and they had worked OK for over a year. But then I had to move my ADSL modem to a different room away from the main desktop PC and I connected a PC to the TV to allow iplayer streaming so I needed more connectivity and something faster and I did not want to have to rely on WiFi for permanent connections. So I first bought just a pair of these 200 Mbs devices and they worked fine between top floor and basement of my house. Although the 200Mbs kit worked OK alongside the existing 85Mbs devices they coexist rather than working with each other, as is well documented. So instead of having two different Homeplugs fed from the same router and using the same mains socket I bought another pair of 200Mbs devices and retired the old 85Mbs ones. This means I have a spare in case I ever need it or for future expansion. I have a Slingbox and iplayer PC connected through an Ethernet switch to one Homeplug, the main desktop PC through another and the ADSL internet router through a third. I am quite surprised they work as well as they do as the three different ring circuits are separately fused and connected through the mains consumer unit. But they work OK. Of course I don't get a full 200Mbs. At the moment the supplied utility says I am currently getting 119Mbs on one device and 196Mbs on another. It is often far lower than this and I understand they run at half-duplex but as the speed is far in excess of the 16Mbs ADSL connection I don't care.

The devices are fairly big but not huge and I have two plugged into double sockets alongside other mains leads. They get slightly warm in operation but not hot. The Ethernet connection comes out of the bottom which might be a problem for some people if the mains socket is close to a floor or work surface but is OK for me. They don't have a mains pass-through so for the other I plug it into a two-way mains adaptor and it seems to work OK like that. They do NOT like being plugged into mains extension leads and although they work the speed drops greatly. The software supplied is Windows only and allows a private network to be setup. To my mind the Homeplug way of defining a private network is crazy but that is the standard for Homeplug it seems and not down to this particular make of device. I used the supplied software to set a private network but there is also a button on each device that can be used instead. I have never used it. There is no need to use a private network at all of course.

I am quite happy with these devices.

Works pretty well, easy to set up, admin tools could be better

Set-up is easy, just plug in and press the pairing button. These also paired in the same way with an existing, earlier TL-PA201 version that I already had. We're using these two plus one older version to connect the study and the living room to our internet router in the hall. The data rate indicated is >100mbps for two of the locations and typically around 30~50mbps for the third - guess that's the vagiaries of our ageing wiring! I wouldn't rely on powerline to stream high bit rate video, but it copes ok here with DVDs and audio - all ours is on a network disk in the study and is usually played back by a PC in the living room.

Reliability is reasonable, which is as good as I expected for powerline networking. We get the odd occasion - maybe once every couple of weeks - when the network connections play up and it's helpful to reboot (i.e., unplug and re-insert) one or more of the adapters to settle things down.

The admin tools aren't needed for basic operation. These could work better and aren't especially well documented. They allow you to assign names to the devices which is useful, but for some reason won't let me name the one the PC running the tools is actually connected to! Setting QoS options seems to have little or no noticeable impact. Some admin operations also seem to require the PC to be plugged directly into one of the adapters, rather than working via a switch or hub.

From opening the box to all working in under 5 minutes,impressive. Now getting 100mps on my laptop where even with wireless N before was only getting 48mps. Make sure you read the instructions though as you have to press the pair button. For the price what more can you ask. Dont expect to get 200mps out of any powerline device, as it depends on the configureation of your mains network.Ive also got TP Link ADSL wire TD w8960N wireless N router which works well, but as with all wireless routers speed drops with range. So this is a neat solution and great value. Dont waste your money on more expensive powerlink such as Netgear you dont need to. As ever ordered it on the Friday from Amazon arrived on Saturday. One last point the kit comes with two Cat 5 network cables but these are only 1m long.

Eine DLAN Plug-and-Play-Lösung die gute Datenraten auch über größere (>10m) Entfernungen ermöglicht.

Ich wohne in einem weitläufigen Stahlbetonbauhaus und habe generell Probleme mit WLAN Verbindungen. Es gibt nur einen Telefon- und damit Internetanschluss, der ca. 12 Meter durch zwei Räume getrennt von meinem Zielort (Wohnzimmer) entfernt liegt.

Mit dem TP-Link 200Mbps Powerline Ethernet Adapter Starter Kit konnte ich problemlos eine stabile und durchsatzstarke Verbindung herstellen.

Lediglich Einstecken, die "Pair"-Verbindungsknöpfe an den Geräten (innerhalb von 120 Sek.) drücken und die Verbindung stand!

Die Verbindung stand ohne weitere Maßnahmen bei 60% Qualität und 105 Mbit.
Ich musste aber zwei Verlängerungskabel/Multi-Stecker entfernen, da diese -auch wegen des Überspannungsschutzes KEINE Verbindung zuließen.

Etwas problematisch finde ich, dass eine Verschlüsselung nicht verpflichtend eingerichtet werden muss. So können (theoretisch) über andere Steckdosen, z.B. im Keller, im Garten usw. -bedingt durch die gute Reichweite- Personen Zugang zum Internet bekommen. Na ja ... theoretisch :-)
