Enjoy 3G/4G Wireless Sharing

Tests in the Field-High Compatibility
Compatibility is the most important aspect to consider when you're selecting a 3G/4G router. To ensure the best compatibility between our routers and the modem you would use with the router, TP-LINK has made certain that our 3G/4G Routers are compatible with the ISPs in the regions in which they are sold. We have teams around the globe continually testing our Routers with newly emerged modems to ensure that end users can feel confident that their routers will operate flawlessly where they live and work.
Comprehensive 3G/4G and WAN Connection Backup Strategy
The TL-MR3420 stands out with its 3G/ 4G and WAN connection back-up, which keeps users online when one connection fails. TP-LINK's 3G/4G Router provides users with both 3G/4G Preferred and WAN Preferred back-up modes, while other brands provide one or the other. This brings users a high degree of flexibility when users are setting up the networks with considering connection costs and length of downtime.
Wireless N Speed & Range
Complying with the IEEE 802.11n standard, the TL-MR3420 can establish a wireless network with transmission speeds of up to 300Mbps, while mitigating data loss over long distances and through obstacles in a small office or a large apartment, even in a steel-and-concrete building. Above all, users can easily pick up their wireless network's signal at longer distances from the router, where with legacy 11g products they would have to be much closer.
WPA / WPA2 Encryptions -Advanced Security
In order to safeguard user‘s Wi-Fi networks, WEP encryption is no longer strong enough. The TL-MR3420 provides WPA/WPA2 encryptions (Both Personal and Enterprise),created by the WI-FI Alliance, promoting interpretabilities and security for WLAN, to protect against almost any threat that the Internet or intruders may harbor.
∙ Wireless security encryption easily at the push of the WPS button
∙ WDS wireless bridge provides seamless bridging to expand your wireless network
∙ IP based bandwidth control allows administrators to determine how much bandwidth is allotted to each PC
∙ Parental Control allows parents or administrators to establish restricted access policies for children or staff

Installation is straightforward. The user interface is friendly, even to those who may find such a configuration process a bit daunting. Inserting the USB is all you have to do as far as establishing a connection is concerned. The router takes care of configuring that end of things. Allows 4 wired connections as well as wireless connectivity. The range is very good thanks to the sizeable antennae and can be easily extended using a repeater if you want to broadcast a bit further.
The wireless button allows you to turn on and off the WIFI which can be an advantage. The user interface allows you to set any name you like for your network as well as your own password, which can be changed as often as you like.
I would also recommend using a TP-Link MA180 USB dongle with this router. For the money, they are a lot better in terms of performance when compared to the average dongle a service provider will supply you with.
Be aware that it can an take a couple of minutes to acquire a signal when turned on.
Vote useful if you need a firmware installation guide, I have included below.
Compatibility - Purchased a 3 network (using in the UK) Huawei e353 dongle and it worked straight out of the box with no firmware updates. Had an old e1550 dongle by Huawei that I couldn't get to work, even though was stated on the TP-Link website that it was supported.
Signal Strength - I love in a large old 3 bed flat with solid brick walls between every room and I get full signal on my mac, and cheap £100 tablet in every room.
THERE IS NO INSTRUCTIONS on how to do a firmware update. So, for those people who have dongles that should be compatible with this device and cannot figure this out, here's how:
Download the latest firmware from the TP-Link site.
Save it to desktop for ease of access or wherever you please.
Plug in the router and connect to you're PC/Mac via the ethernet cable as described in the user manual.
Type the TP-Link IP address (192.168.0.1 is default) and enter you're user/account name and password (admin, admin is default).
Look down the left hand side menu and select 'System Tools'.
In this drop down menu select 'Firmware Upgrade'.
Copy and paste the location of the firmware upgrade you downloaded or select browse and locate the file that way.
Hope this helps someone.
I was looking for a way to share my 4G USB stick connection over WiFi, but I also needed 1 ethernet (LAN) connection too, and this router provided that feature with its built-in ethernet port, when set to 3G/4G router mode.
The other modes allow the router to act as a regular WiFi access point, so you could connect it to your ADSL or cable modem and use it to provide WiFi only, drawing its internet connection from the modem, much like an Apple AirPort base station for example.
It has DHCP, and the IP address settings can be configured for customised IP address ranges, there are the usual NAT & port forwarding options too. Or it can just be used in bridge mode to get all its IP settings from the ADSL / cable modem. All this can be configured via the web-based control panel.
The awesome thing about this is that it powers itself from USB, so it can be taken literally anywhere - use it in your car and you have an instant WiFi network on the move, just plug it into a 12V USB car charger which are widely available and cheap these days.
Not the best quality feel in the world but that doesn't bother me, it is built decently enough, and it's an excellent price for what you get in my opinion.
A small problem I found which may help others is that the newer Huawei E3256 dongle is very reluctant to work when used with a 5m extension (as per my old set-up) and I managed to get this working by adding a ferrite core choke to the extension. There are no such problems when using my old Huawei E323 dongle. My internet speed with the new dongle has now doubled and is consistently around 6MB (yes appalling but I am only on one bar in a very rural location).
Very much recommended. Dual-band would have been nice but this is such a good price.
