TP-Link is one out of a wide range of router suppliers, but what makes them stand out for me is that they provide the best experiences for the price range. Wireless routers should cost a lot more than you would expect, but routers like this bridge the price gap to something more affordable for your home. And this router is a glowing example of what it should be like.
Like your normal broadband ones, underneath the router will be the default setup instructions. The setup process is simple and guided so it won't be anything too difficult. But if you fancy tinkering around and reading the manual, you'll discover the device full potential. There is easy access to diagnostics (great to send to your ISP if there's network issues), the ability to separate your wifi from your guests access, a USB port to provide either 3G broadband or a shared USB storage, and more advanced features. There's also a handy pin-reset at the back in case your router hi-jinks causes your family to be booted off the internet.
All in all, I recommend this router highly as a solution to replacing the sub-par experience you can sometimes receive from ISP provided routers. Bear in mind that if you go down this route your ISP can't help you with your router configuration as they don't condone routers that aren't their own, but TP-Link is an established networking brand so help shouldn't be too far away.
The inclusion of a printer/storage/3g+4g dongle port at the back means the router/modem is not short of possibilities as your network grows.
I have used quite a few modems over the years, and this modem is one of the most stable and feature rich at this price range that's for sure, with VPN/IPV6/IPTV settings etc, its got more than I think most people will ever use.
Good quality of product at a very reasonable price (I'd love to try Billion network products but can't justify paying 3-4 times what TP-Link products cost).
Easy setup of network connection and device settings (intuitive menu's but they are more or less 2nd nature to me as I've used TP-Link for some years now).
Seems to be holding connection fine and the wireless signal seems to be holding okay for us (some owners complain that wireless reception is limited to a small area) we have had no such problems.
I did take the precaution of extending the clearance of the bottom of the unit by adding some adhesive rubber pads to the small feet of the case as some owners of V1 units complained that unit gets hot (there are 2 reasons for this the first being the insufficient air circulation under the unit and secondly the fact that V1 used Lantiq adsl chipsets which run hot, V3 uses broadcom chipsets which run a bit cooler).
It's early days for me and this unit (only 3 days so far) but initial perception of this unit is good. I've always been happy so far with TP-Link purchases and only time will tell if that faith in the name remains. If things change to alter my opinion then I shall re-visit this review.
All in all a good all-round performer at a very reasonable cost.
