The great thing about this book is that it shows that metal fans are quite similar in their likes and dislikes. The list does throw up a few surprises and Popoff is quick to point this out but he is also quick to point out the strengths of the music for what they give the listener or fan, even if the musicianship is sometimes lacking. It's a book I bought for a number of my friends and one you sit on the khasi reading for hours, then go down the pub with your mates and argue about who you would choose in your top 20, Popoff has a great way of words and his talents are honed down for the quick reviews here, but leaves enough for you to want to go out and buy those albums you didn't by the first time around or were not around to do so....this is a no brainier if you have headbanged at some point in your life....metal up your ar*e....

Tush and nonsense Popoff writes with a flair and wit unseen in the Metal media world. His succint views and accurate protrayals of the comprehensive run down of the top 500 Metal albums is a joy to read and behold!
You might not agree with the choice, extensively polled from thousands of voters, but this is a superb reference guide and covers just about all you could want in a Metal book.
If only other writers could pen as well as Popoff. It is plainly only pure ignorance that people have to belittle his talent for the written word.
This is a must buy!

A one man self congratulatory, self indulgent, smugfest. This is not about the music but, about who the author has met and likes. There are many great, witty, informative and self reverential books about heavy metal. This is not one of them.

why would you want to buy something like this?!?! dont you know what you like and what you don't? you really wanna buy a book of someone ELSE's opinions? especially someone who cannot write and is obsessed with himself, just like Popoff. he is someone who gives metal a bad name - avoid!!!!!
